Love the 'blip'/'fart' in the Golf but I've never actually driven the Polo Gti.

Yes i believe they do. There is a guy who lives near me (i see the car quite regularily) with a current shape Polo GTi and i hear it "fart" when it goes up through the gears. I dont think the noise is quite as prominent as it is with the Golf's, but its still there as far as my ears tell me.
PS - you can hear it in this short video:

Help me find a camera that won't fall off the back of the Polo (due to drag caused by the hatch back Aerodynamics/physics 101 suggest it will be pulled off).
I will do a video of my Polo "TSI" ABT blurt o-tronas the ABT Cat back/diffuser can be used for the GTI

To answer your question, from the factory no, it doesn't. With an aftermarket exhaust like the milltek that removes the centre muffler, yes, you can hear it.sigpic

I've heard others call the Mk6 noise a DSG burp/blip/fart. Is it the exhast or the transmission that 'causes' it?

It's the exhaust, when you change up gears with the dsg, the ecu cuts the spark to the coilpacks and this is what causes the blurt/pop/fart etc. With th ecentre muffler removal, it becomes evident. With a bigger exhaust, it becomes further evident. With a nice striahgt through system, i'm sure it would be further enhancedsigpic
