I had a lot of trouble getting my phone to pair originally, too (though I'm using an Android phone and the 9WZ Bluetooth module). I seem to remember there being a big difference between initiating the pair from the phone, and initiating it from the car. Try doing the opposite one of what you've been doing and you may have more luck.
