Well today I had a chance to drop the oil and man check out how filthy the oil is, this is 4300km old oil and there was only 3lts left! Btw I have not topped up the oil in anyway since ownership as my plan was to drop the oil at 5k Kms or when the oil light came on, which occurred at 4.2k Kms

And this is what fresh oil looks like


In total i used 4lts~ thereabouts to get back to the correct indicator level.
I implore everyone not to wait to 15k Kms for the first service, IMO change it at 5k Kms and also replace the oil filter.

Can't really tell from that photo how dirty it is but to be honest mate it looks fine....You are only going to know how bad the oil is if you test it.....I dunno if you can buy it...But i have been thinking about using the ones i have at work. Test the 'viscosity' , 'water in ppm', 'fuel in ppm' To be fair.....4,200km's is nothing. my car is pushing 7000km's and by the good old look, smell and feel test it is fine haha.

Acko Yeah you can't tell from the photos and you can't tell all the above without a proper test granted but seriously id rather have fresh new oil than to continually top it up, just my opinion. Acko If you can I'd like you to get your oil tested . I saved mine so I will take it in for an analysis too and then let's compare notes.

I am going to be working down in melbourne on the 18th June. I will be down their for around 6 months so yeh sounds like a plan. I can test yours if you want. Just meet somewhere. I will be living between mornington during the week and richmond on the weekends.....

cool! should be interesting! if you are experience oil loss through the piston rings i am expecting to see a decent amount of fuel in the oil. but who knows.

When I dropped mine at 6000kms it stunk of burned toast, was gritty and black as black.

Will check this lot when I change it in 2000kms as this too is Castrol oil (same as factory fill). It already smells burned so really I should have done it already.
