For those who haven't seen this yet:

Geneva Motor Show 2012: Polo BlueGT | VWWatercooled Australia

Looks nicely positioned between the 77TSi and GTI, and comes with a manual trans! Let's hope a 3 door is made available in Au too.

Good idea VW. The 77TSI is underpowered in my opinion and theres a big jump between that and the GTI engine - so good idea to introduce a mid spec version.

Just not sure about the material on those seats....

Nice! I prefer my Boavistas to those wheels though. Shall we play "Guess the price point"? I'm going with $24,000 before on roads.

That is fly. My mate has a Golf GT and I like the subtle hints of the GT, you get a lot of GTI without missing out on too much.

              New EA211 engine
"n complete defiance of the norm, the EA211’s camshafts are driven by a belt. Yes, a belt. The advantage is less friction loss than with a chain system. The kicker: VW says the EA211’s belts are good for the lifetime of the engine. No mileage was quoted, but we expect “lifetime” to mean at least 100,000 miles"

              Praise the Lord!

I really like it!...Think i might just get one....only thing that i am a bit sceptical of is the fuel consumption at cruising speeds....I recently driven from sydney to melbourne and back in my polo 77TSI and because i was going 110km/h i was only able to achieve 5.6l/100km which in my opinion is poor for motorway cruising...

you should be able to do much better than that, my 77 will do 20 - 22 km/L when driving 110 (chipped)

Was suprised to see this, brother and I woudn't mind trading in our current VW's for one each, look foward to seeing future reviews and pricing.

Well here we are about a year later and no sign of it. Does anyone know whether VW Au has said anything about selling them here?

What do you consider "piss poor"?

I drive my GTI... Lets say... Irresponsibly, and I still average 8.4L/100km. These are largely city km's. Now I know thats a way off the "average" consumption quoted at 6.1L/100km but as I said I'm not that gentle most of the time and after coming from a Commodore V6 (similar driving style averaged 15.2L/100km) it's a revelation.

Interesting point. I have no been able to get the combined cycle even with tune below 6.7. Highway I will comfortably get 6.0 but that's it.
