If they don't, then it's pretty pisspoor on vw's behalf because even ford do it on the territory and that is a heap of crap car at the best of times.I hate SUVs so don't get me started...
I think we are also discussing radically different time frame for the damper wear - you mentioned them wearing out overnight while I meant they could wear twice as quickly as normal (still a long time for folks who change their car every 3 years).
I can tell you from motorcycle racing that it is AMAZING the amount of wear in a damper when you look at the oil from a rebuild - the oil is heavily colored from all the aluminum particles suspended in it (forks are even worse but it's easy to drain and replace so you do it all the time).

Hail, with the bone-jarring ride in the GTI along with a swaybar, I say yes, you definitely need oneAlso, it's personal preference. I prefer KW coz they are KW, that's it
H&R or Eibach are just as good really
kaanage, as you might have seen on mine, lift-off oversteer is practically non existant for 2 reasons.
1) ESC
2) ESC
Can't be turned off so the fun police step in as soon as there is any real slip from the rear
Thanks for your support too mate, I value your opinion greatly and seeing as we read the same kind of literature, it's always great to get another perspective on somethingI have seen the wear induced on dampers and the kind of condition that oil can deteriorate to very quickly (bloody shock oil stinks!) and I have also seen what happens to over-worked dampers from the wrong springs being used (a loud pop, bad smell and sock oil everywhere....) and you are right, I think we were at the opposite poles. If a car wears out it's dampers twice as fast, yet those dampers would have lasted 400000kms, then 200000kms is still a pretty good haul

Originally posted by gavs View Postyet those dampers would have lasted 400000kmsA quarter of that is the life I'd expect for the average GTi (with totally stock suspension).

Guys over in europe have found ways around it but nothing that is commercially available. Guess they don't want the liability of someone killing themselves because the ESC has been turned off when it's not meant to be. Oh well, more power fixes the losses caused by slower turn in speedssigpic

Yeah probably but I'm sort of annoyed with online shopping due to the back log in Europe/UK.
So I may wait til all the BS picks up pace.
