  • Polo 77TSI - DSG Gearbox problem?!

    Hi all,

I have a Polo TSI version equipped with the 7 speed - DSG since Sept 2010 with 13000km in the odometres. It has gone through the first service with repair on the rattling noise in the fuel pipe lines happens during Acceleration.

Recently after the first service at South Yarra (Sept 2011), the DSG gearbox decided to act peculiar.
I think it happened more frequently when it is on start stop traffic with hill type situation.

The problem is when the car is turning and accelerates up a hill from standing still from 1st to 2nd gear, it doesn’t engage the gear properly and it will shook/juddered the entire car until it hit the 2nd gear on the spot.

This has happened a bit more frequently (3 months from the first service) and it really doesn’t give me any confidences especially this is a brand new car.

Other problems that still not fixed are
    – Another irritating noise during idling or on DRIVE mode during stand still under the steering rack but disappear when the car is on the move.

    - The plastic on the power window driver side has cracked.

Does anyone has the judders problem with the DSG gearbox?

    Hi
No judder on mine, but have noticed occasional delay in finding second or third, when approaching a hill at low speed and coasting / off accelerator for a second or two. The car seems lost in finding or engaging a gear...it's probably less than a second of a delay but it's noticeable...have got used to it now, so doesn't worry me.

It's probably the clutches engaging and disengaging.

Might be best to drop by the dealer, and demonstrate your concerns with them on a road test with a technician or foreperson.

+1 for asking dealership to look at it.

In the meantime, may I suggest that you take it for a drive, pull the DSG shifter back to "S" mode, and give that 77TSI exactly what it is yearning for. Some hard revving action. The little 1.2lt loves it, helps the DSG electronics to 'refresh' themselves, and you may be surprised that the issues you refer to, could be gone. If not, you've had fun....take it to the dealer and see if any error codes come up.

I now have 20000+km on my polo, the amount of throttle that is applied on acceleration depends on how big or if the jolt happens from 1st to second.......had the car 6 months now....

Even the 77TDI golf loan car with same DSG7 had the same jolt......

Found the DSG to be jerky when cold and in stop start traffic, but drive it hard and it is such a nice transmission.........it helps extract every last bit of power the little 1.2 can muster.......

There's a thread about this very issue over in the Golf VI forum:

It depends on how you drive it. After 8000+kms on the gti, my car has learned that in "D", the gearbox and engine are to be smooth and silky, all these media reports etc of the DSG being jerky at parking speeds is a lot of crap, it comes down to what the ECU has learned in regard to the driving style employed. As for the shuddering, I can't comment as i don't have it. I do know though that when crawling in traffic, the gearbox gets into 2nd proper quickly and when moving away at these speeds, there is no jerkiness etc. I wouldn't say this is a higher-torque based situation though because the supercharger isn't engaged at this speed, I know when it is engaged because I hear a "chiiiirrrp" as it slips.

                Hi guys,

Just want to UPDATE you all that i just got back from the service.

Here are the reports from the Volkswagen South Yarra.

"Checked for shudder from transmission on take off. Found clutch to have failed internally. Ordered New Clutch Pack as required."
                PN: 0AM 198 141 K

"Checked for window switch surround is not sitting in place. Ordered new drivers Window Switch Surround."

                PN: 6R0 867 255 D9B9

This is a brand new car, beside being ****S happened or maybe i received a "Monday Production" car type.

Does this happened often to anyone DSG gearbox?!?!
Somehow the dealer mentioned, I can drive it off even the clutch is internally failed, with non-confident face. Seriously is this ok?

                Hear from you all soon.

Thanks for all the advices really appreciated it.

I'd say the technician was in a rush to write up his report to bother with a lengthy explaination as to why your car is behaving the way it does.

Either way, they've found a problem, and they're going to sort it out.

I wouldn't going throwing Friday/Monday/Siesta car terms around just yet. These cars are built in modular fashion. The DSG, for all we know, was probably built 3 months before, in an entirely different country.

The trim, sure. Some QC issues there. But from where? Does the car have aftermarket tint?

Hope this puts it into a different perspective.

Our 77TSI DSG has now started the "take-off" shudder. Experienced it myself first hand last night, after my wife had been complaining about it for some time.

I'll try to reset the DSG, and see if that fixes it, otherwise, it's back to the dealer. Which means both our VW's are experiencing warranty issues (R32 = dead aircon)

Make sure they add lubricant when they re-fill the system if anything is replaced / disconnected requiring a re-gas. (Home Page > Search > Air Conditioning Oil > ES#261761 Oil For A/C Compressor - 250ml - G052154A2)

A mate recently had his system repaired (they replaced the compressor under warranty - straight forward you'd imagine) - the outsourced contractor his local dealership used to vac/fill the system just re-gassed it and didn't put the lubricant in as well. Suffice to say, he's awaiting the compressor to be replaced again as it died. The dealership claim they have no idea why it failed and it must be a faulty compressor from factory, but a brief look at the service order for parts used explains it perfectly.

                      /rant.

Bought a DSG equipped Polo in Jane 2010. Have had many problems since Day ! Now VW says it's the way I drive it. Have received a Very Nasty Letter from their Solicitors. Have had an Independent Expert diagnose any possible problems using the VCDS Self-Diagnosis Log System Have changed VW dealers as the one at Liverpool hasn't a bloody clue They couldn't even like a late model car Ant they say they have received extensive training from VW Methinks they have left it at home heh heh heh heh
                          The Diagnosis came up as
                          1 Fault Found 163782 Control Module, 014 Defective - 4149 km
1 Fault Found 00526 Brake Light Switch Fault Frequency 256, Fault Frequency 1 - 43715
As the Polo has now covered 46030 kms, does this mean that the Control Module problem has been UNDIAGNOSED by the Experts at the dealership for over 40000 kilometres???? So much for the Extensive Training!!! Someone is Bull****ting to me, methinks.
