just under 18K in seven months. loving it time i drive it. no DSG probs *touch wood*, no dash rattle *touch wood*. only problem has been some paint flaking in the crease above the tail pipe, warranty claim has been made... still waiting to hear back from dealer about it. but not getting any worse, and not that noticeable. yeah, polo is awesome...

the 77tsi isnt a 0-100 freak, but handles very very well

as someone mentioned, would put quite a lot of 'sports' cars to shame !

              TSI turned 20,000km.........Like/Dislikes

Mind has recently turned 25k and am more than happy with it, had the rattle prob in the beginning but other than a few minor issues, have nothing but praise for my little car. I hope it continues.

I think the reality is they are a lot closer together than that. VW seem to rate their cars very conservatively. Wheels Magazine tested a stock 6 speed manual 77TSI Comfortline (November 2011 edition) and achieved 8.8 seconds 0 - 100 and 16.4 seconds standing quarter (this would be two-up with 95 unleaded). Motor Magazine tested the Swift Sport (September 2012 edition) and got 8.5 seconds 0 - 100 and 16.1 seconds standing quarter. So about 0.3 seconds in it. Pretty close all things considered, especially considering the on-paper specs of the Swift are significantly superior and the latest version of the Swift Sport engine gives much better torque than earlier versions did.

Wheels also describe the 77TSI as a "sub-GTI" if optioned with the Sports Pack. Although I cannot find test data from both magazines testing both cars, these two magazines have traditionally either been very close together in test results or Motor Magazine has produced better results. The tests I have found that do overlap both magazines tends to suggest that both the sets of times I have quoted above are valid.

If you then take into account aftermarket tuning for both cars it is likely the 77TSI would make up this 0.3 second deficit and perhaps even surpass the Swift, given that amongst other things, the turbo in stock form is running at less than it's normal intended design specification (it is designed to run high 7 psi figures but it only runs at 6 psi in the stock 77TSI).

Finally, if you then took into account factors such as refinement, manual gearbox feel (I have never come across a manual gearbox anywhere remotely as nice as the one in the Polo), ride quality, interior fit and finish, etc, then I think the Polo 77TSI Sports Pack makes a pretty good case for itself against a Swift Sport.

Couldn't agree more. I was thinking of a Swift Sport before I bought the Polo, but the ride quality, design, exterior quality, interior quality and overall fit and finish of the Polo was light years ahead of the Swift (and anything else in the class, or even the class above). There's a reason the Polo 77TSI wins just about every small car award and is recommended by almost all car reviewers for someone looking for a small car.

50,442 kms done so far since july 2011. I am loving this car. My first brand spanking new car.

                    Issues -
From the beginning it has had a slight squeal at various times coming from the front right brake area when turned round corners. (the other day it was a constant high pitch squeal from home to work (13km), thought i was going to have to take it in. I parked it near my work and when I went to drive it again (i reveresed from a 45 degree angle park with a bit of a decline and it sounded like something flicked from the brake area and the noise was gone???
There was a slight rattle near the seat belt area on the driver side of the car
I am hating the condition of the roads in Australia - even driving on the freeway where it is suppose to be smooth they have a slight lip, travelling at 110km per hour makes that little lip feel like a frigging speed hump!!! not cool especially with the low profile tyres.

Yep. 63,715 km since August 2011.

Issues: Some rats decided to eat some vacuum hoses and diesel from Woolworths/Caltex is rubbish and blocks the DPF all the time.

Positives: It's not a DSG It uses almost no fuel and it's good looking and fun.

you 77 guys have some of the oddest signatures I've seen (like the boot tub in your mothers car, you have a stubby antenna, that you might buy new brake pads).

I hear you! Man, that 'lowered suspension' plus the low profile tyres that come with the Sports Pack really makes you feel those bumps! I was on the Hume Hwy just today and those joins in the asphalt at 110kms certainly do feel like speed bumps!
