So someone hit my car...

So someone reversed into my car today and didn’t leave any details , cause you know their such a nice person, luckily theres no real body damage just a few scratches on the right hand side of the rear bumper near the wheel arch where you can basically see what looks like bare grey plastic/fibreglass/whatever the polos body is made out, the paints basically been scratched off in abour 4, 5-10cm length lines...

Just wondering what people in this situation have done before, ive been told i can probably just put some touch up paint on it but due to the nature of the colour (pepper grey) im pretty sure it would stand out... alot :S Also anyone have any idea how much would it cost me to get this repaired and would i require a respray of the whole bumper,

You would need a minimum of teh whole area sandedback and resprayed, which would require colour matching and blending in, more difficult on a metallic car. You may find though that it will be cheaper to go through insurance, especially if you have Rating 1 protection and wear the excess....

i've been fooled before - seen it happen at a shopping mall parking lot, the cu(nt)lprits walking back and forth, grabbing something you couldnt really see out of their glove box, looking as though they're leaving something on the windshield of the victim's car.... only for me to drive past 1 min later, to find nothing there, and that it had all been a show to get onlookers to walk away thinking "ah atleast they're good blokes".

hope you get it sorted. the world is full of arseholes who deserve to be kerb-stomped.

Sorry to hear it. In terms of painting it, I'd get the whole bumper done to make sure it looks even. Having said this, as your car is still new then patching it could still blend in perfectly well.

I just like to have it "perfect" or as close to original as you can get it. Otherwise I'd see the spot every time I look at it.

You can always get security footage from the carpark/shopping center if its available to get the numberplate of the car.

I would say start researching.. I had something similar happen to my front bumper, I got a mobile repair guy to sand back the area and colour match it for $450. BUT, later when I bought an aftermarket rear bumper (one piece including valance), which came not ready to paint and had to be sanded, filled, primed and then painted, I found a place that did it all for me for $220. Another bodyworks shop offered somewhere around $400 and that's before they found out it wasn't ready to paint, after which they refused to do it altogether and reckoned it would cost me a fortune.

Moral of the story.. shop around, find a good bodyworks painter. If you were in Brisbane I could've recommended.

edit: btw, front bumper repair was fine, flawless except where the guy missed a very small spot by error - in terms of texture and colour etc, for OEM cars with colour codes it's not hard to match at all, so no worries there. It's really only a problem if you have a custom paint job and the painter has to guess the colour code through some colour matching software...

I had a similar "adventure" a few years ago. Get a quote for the repairs and compare to what the excess is on your insurance. then decide. I ended-up going thru' insurance. - did a good job and even found and fixed some damage that I hadn't noticed. Still could have thumped the person who did it at the time. Grrrrr.....

yeh im based in melbourne but im up in warnambool atm for work popped by the local body shop just to get a ruff idea and the guys quote was about $450, im hoping i can find something more reasonable back home next week solely as theirs alot more competition..

$450 sounds less than the usual excess, so if you can find something even less in Melb., that may be the way to go. good luck.

My mishap happening this morning. I was at the carpark and some lady parked like s*** next to me and didn't bother to fix it so i knew that she was going to hit my car once she opened the door. Lucky didn't get any scratches or dents. I still fumed at her though. So inconsiderate.

why cant people take more notice of their surroundings hey. just cos they dont give a rat's a$$ bout their car doesnt mean everyone else is like em. i've picked up a good 5 dings in the last 5 months (if this keeps up, i should be getting another one in a couple of days) on my doors. i guess the only thing you can do is to tell yourself "it gives the car character" lol

the thing about your post is that yes, there are PLENTY of people out there who think that just because their car is a ishtbox, they can spank the car doors open however they like etc....

do what i do - look for spots in shopping mall parking lots where there are eight empty parking spaces in a row; dont park in the down-hillest part (because 3unts like to just kick their shopping trolleys away once they're done), never park within 45 degrees downhill of a shopping trolley bay; if you can find a spot (no matter how far away from the mall entrance it may be) that has a pole or a kerb on one side, drive in there / reverse park in there, to give the undoubtable shtcnts who are going to park next to you as much room as possible to punt their doors open like the ufking arsholes they are, etc etc...

it's a war out there. even on a mild day at the local mall, i'll circle 3 times looking for the best (read: most remote) spot....
