Sure does, was annoying the crap out of me last night because there was super fine drizzle on my way home from work and it must have been every drop fell in the area of the sensor!
More than anything, i would say this is another fine example of the bulls**t service and incompetence that afflicts a fairly high percentage of VW dealerships.
Take it to another dealer, you have absolutely no obligation to return to the dealer you bought the car from.
Gavs, is there any advice you can provide on how you got it to work on your car; I haven't been able to get it to on mine. I have read the manual and followed the instructions, and I still haven't got them to work in my fully factory optioned TDI car.
When I place my wipers in the mode [Which looks like the intermittent speed selector] my wipers start working at the selected speed and do not stop; rain, hail or shine. The manual, says that as long as I have a clean windscreen the rain sensor should work, and that adjustments on the stalk will adjust the sensitivity.
Any assistance you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
So there is someone else in the same boat, Bill Beer have you had it looked at by your dealer?? I'm still waiting for my dealer to get back to me, as well as no response from VW Aus (e-mailed them on their volswagon assist address) Just another rip off.......spoils a good car.

im pretty sure i mentioned this in one of my other posts. If you got the comfort pack option added to the car, which includes the rain sensing wipers, and they don't work, like mine didn't when i received the car, simply book it back into the dealership to get it coded in, for some reason quite a few of the cars with the comfort pack are ending up with the wipers not being coded in when the car is produced.
If the dealer wants to charge you for coding them in, its bull**** as it should have been done from factory and is their problem to fix. It cost me absolutely nothing when they did it for me, and acknowledged that there have been quite a few being brought back to the dealership with this problem.

Trepid4tion, I read that but I was hoping I was doing something wrong so I could avoid going back there. I will give them a call on Monday, thanks for following up!
Hey Trepid,
My dealer does not want to charge me, they are telling me my Polo (with comfort pack) it has every thing else by the way!! does not have the rain sensing wipers, my next option for a dealer is 180ks away. But I think it may be worth the drive.

yeah, im not sure whats going on there hey, as the rain sensing wipers are meant to be a part of the comfort pack... someone else might be able to shed some more light on this one. Do all the other bits and pieces of the comfort pack work?

Yeah everyting else works although I had to get them to look at the tyre pressure monitoring system, which they tell me they had to reset it. As I said looks like a bit of a road trip to get another dealer to have a look.

Most likely a coding issue (wont say definately, as there are always exceptions to the rule!). Have rectified this on a few cars now. Perhaps your dealership is having difficulty overcoming the poor German-to-English translations in the diagnostic computer's interface that I had experianced. The name for it changes about 3 or 4 times as you click through the menus to enable it.
My car had the wrong comfort module software loaded into it (?!) according to diagnostics done last friday and this software is loaded at the factory so there is no real surprise that there are these issues.....
If the base of your mirror is what is shown in the photos both trepid4tion and I posted, then you have the comfort pack, the rain-sensing wipers come with the self dimming mirror, simple as that. It is possible, of course, that the factory didn't install the correct loom but generally, that's pretty rare because all of the cars basically run the same loom....
Thanks Gavs,,just had a chat with another dealer service dept and he tells me the rain sensor is the same as the auto headlights (WTF) is that even an option, any way I wait with disappointed anticipation for my dealer to get back to me.
Sigh

The auto lights sensor is the other small white photo-something-or-other sensor you can see in the panel. We don't get that as an option though so I wouldn't worry about it
Mines booked in for tomorrow; they didn't really know what I was saying but I had enough information from this thread to convince them there was an issue that they could fix by plugging my car into their computer.
