DSG Fault on GTI

You will have to modify your driving behaviour. It's not the car's fault.
The car has a "hill holder". So you don't have to maintain pressure on the brake with your left foot while you apply throttle with your right foot.

I'm well aware of hill start assist but on larger than average ascends/descends it does not do its job properly.

In my instance this problem did not happen whilst having my left foot on the brake as others have done. Starting with my right foot on the brake, releasing it, then after applying accelerator for a short period (because I'm waiting for the gate to open), it disengages the gear to neutral...hence why I'm free rolling backwards.

Have you tried to keeping your foot on the brake while the gate opens... then once it has opened you apply throttle?

How about using the handbrake to hold the car, and release it gradually as the clutch engages, like you'd do with a traditional manual?

I mean lets face it, if the 30 degrees is not an exaggeration, that's a damn steep driveway.... it's in excess of what some 4WDs can even go up...

My car done it again today at 8700kms. Driving in manual mode, came downhill to a set of lights and the gearbox selected back to 1. Went to take off, nothing. Sits at idle and wont go. Had to turn the car off and it took off in drive. Its not a driving issue, its an issue with the DSG. I dont left foot brake or anything as suggested.

Have had this happen a couple of times, never on flat ground though, only on hills and slopes. TO me it's as if the car goes into anti-stall. Flick it up to neutral and back down again and it fixes it.

Yeah it might be a DSG fault but it's a software issue, not a mechanical one and short of a re-flash or waiting for someone to develop a specific 7spd dry DSG tune, it's just a shortfall of a product that delivers gearshifts quicker than a human ever can.
