    GAVS and GTI JOE:

i'll chip in here. i know i've just got a 9n polo, but here was my experience: prior to getting my brakes done, i had the tune, and having a ''spirited'' drive every now and then wasnt a problem - squirting up the eastern, up mtn hwy, etc etc.

hooked up with some watercoolers for a baw baw cruise, with some people who ACTUALLY drove spiritedly (much more than i was used to), and it completely transformed the way i viewed my brakes - i got heavy brake fade after around 6 corners on the way down from the baw baw car park, and stopping at a T intersection, my brakes were visibly smoking like blackening toast in a toaster (seriously - plumes of dark smoke coming from both wheel arches).

got the front slotted rotors, A1RM pads front and HPX pads rear, plus GSL Rallysport's TRW race brake fluid...

now, i have full confidence. dont know if you guys have had this experience in your polos, but it's pretty bad when your brakes give way on a road like baw baw or reefton - very unsettling. now, however, my tyres will give way before my brakes.

put it this way - since doing the brake upgrade, im convinced that this has to be the first mod on any car i buy from now on. I've been over reefton spur (40kms of twisties into Marysville) almost a dozen times since having the brakes done, and I'm on it hard the whole way - my brakes have never once let me down, even when you're on it so hard that ABS is engaging every other corner.

GSL Rallysport are the guys to go to - Greg there is a great help, and if you want piece of mind, you really, really really need to do this upgrade.

Is it ok for sydney people to join too? Wife and kids would love a nice cruise to Melbourne and catch up with you guys. Actually wife will come along for the shopping, my two boys and I will enjoy the cruise.

Thank you, this is great information.

I can't say that I've ever driven so spiritedly to have had this problem however all you say makes very good sense.

Out of interest how much did it cost you to do the upgrade?

Yeah, I second this as well. Allegiance and Scott can you provide details of cost and if there is a place in Melbourne that does this? I would like to get the APR ECU upgrade and maybe some sway bars, depending on cost, even the brakes...not sure at this stage.

Oh, one more thing, shouldn't the stock brakes be done when they wear out and need replacement? seems like a waste of money to changeover NEW brakes before this????

The brakes are much better than stock, I would go the A1RM pads over the HPX pads though. I also am running stock brake fluid, which I really should get around to replacing at one stage.

Yeah, I've spoken with Greg before when I was going to put TT brakes on my golf I know it seems a waste to waste new brakes, I might leave the stock pads on for a few thousand mms though to bed in the discs. My first upgrade will be a rear sway bar and pads, I'm not a fan of drilled/slotted discs, but thats just me

Yas, feel free to join in, though I hope the family is in possession of iron stomachs

Joe, Greg at Qfm is in Queensland, if he has the pads in stock he will post them down (6R GTI groupbuy maybe...).

Just wanting to know if people would be up for a gather afterwards, not sure how long exactly we would be running for but I'm guessing it would be around the 3-4hr mark....
