  • VIC Polo cruise (once our cars get here!!)

    Hey all,

frostee mentioned a good idea last week that I think would be a great idea for all of us who would like to come along, to hold a cruise for the new Polo owners out there. I'd say all models would be invited.

I'd be looking at a date around June/July for one very good reason, that's when my damn car gets here(along with GTI Joe and others)!

So, let's dredge up some suggestions and opinions if we should let other members tag along with their inferior models of VWs unless someone has a new Scirocco of course, that could always tag along in my opinion!

My suggestion? We need good driving roads so I'm thinking we meet in Croydon (or my place in Ringwood) and then head up to mountain hwy for a leisurly start. At the top, hang a left onto the tourist road and follow it back down to Canturbury road. Right at the roundabout and then right again to Wandin. RRight again and we head up there to the Reefton spur and hang a left. At the top of the spur, we go left again to marysville for morning tea (if you feel like eating, she gonna get twisty!) then down the black spur to Healsville. We go through Healsville and turn right onto Healsville-Kinglake road, aka the famous Chum Creek Road. This will take us to the Melba Hwy, which we would cross to go to Kinglake. Once there, we can stop again if people want, then down the Kinglake-St Andrews road, a ball tearer and brown-jox-generator of a road, especially if you encounter a truck coming the other way! that will end up in Eltham..... Havent thought any further than that yet!

Hey gavs, I'll be in it, although tentatively until a set date is announced
Looks like a nice passive drive Have been around there many years ago, very scenic and challenging. BTW, the Scirocco is on its way from NZ...yeah right!

I just realised that Myslef, GTI JOE and frostee basically all have identical cars, that will be an interesting sight going down the road!!!!

Will set a date closer to recieving a definative ETA of cars arrival which we should have by Monday. Gotta love how Google says 3hrs, 21mins to travel 209 kms along that route, would be an "interesting" (read, DEAD) trip to do it in only that amount of time!!

i'd be keen for sure. reefton spur is one of my favorite roads.

another option is the usual - welly rd - launching place rd. then right to warburton etc then on to reefton.

p.s. may i make a suggestion? gather as much interest as you can, then start working on drive dates via PM - that way, cops arent waiting for us as we roll into warburton like they were on the maroondah dam cruise (partly my fault- all my crap talking about ''spirited driving'' + cops keeping their eye on this forum = bad news).

                  cheers,

                  scotty

Good idea Scotty, will keep that in mind did think of the usual meet but mountain hey, even though it will probably be busy, is a great bit of road for anyone who has never driven it

And Joe, you just wish it was quicker! what do they say about those who brag?

Ah, allegiance, it's you that has the qfm pads! I'm thinking of putting the same pads on the GTI when it gets here, what are your thoughts as some reports from countries that have actually got GTIs is that the standard brake setup doesn't quite match the pace of the car and on this route, I don't think brake fade would be a good thing!!

Getting a little off the topic, I second this gavs. It would be interesting to see how these pads perform. Allegiance, I have also noticed you have changed the rotors as well? how is the combination of pads/rotors performing? and where did you get them fitted? PM if you like.

Hey gavs, have you read the Drive section of this saturdays Age? Polo GTI v Golf GTI, pretty basic and may I say, crappy article Trying to compare apples with oranges all over again!
