  • I'm holding hope that the manifest just hasn't been updated yet. Some people in the other thread said it took days to even a week for the tracking to be updated. (Corey R? What do you think our chances are given your experience?)

The other thing holding my hope is my car was built on the 9th of March and I find it incredibly hard to believe they would have such a backlog of cars just sitting around at the docks for that period of time.

That being said.. IF we did miss it, then we're in for bad news. The next two ships to depart are both 50+ day trips (to fremantle) instead of around 30 days. The next 'fast' route doesn't leave until the 9th of April, however still arrives before the previous two ships.

    Time will tell I guess...

    • Hope just faded fast... someone in the Golf tracking thread is apparently tracking their car on the Toreador.

      • What a depressing start to the day payno, fingers crossed, we might be on the Texas tomorrow or a quicker ship in the next week?
For some reason, my spider senses are telling me Tombarra on the 9/4/11, no hard evidence, just a gut feeling? Hope I'm wrong

Yeah, my Golf R showed up on the tracking site whilst the ship was still in the port of Bremerhaven. I'm sure there have been people who's car didn't show up until later... but I wouldn't really believe a week! Some cars are dropped off in the UK only 1 day after - what good is a tracking that tells you your car is being shipped 6 days after you've received it

          • Have emailed VW customer service (the good one at head office, Wolfsburg, not the one who makes things up in sydney) to see if they know what date/boat the polo gti's sitting on the dock are due to leave on.

              • My money is on the Tombarra now too. Surely it MUST be.

In the meantime if you want to kill some time I found this pretty interesting...

Great minds think alike, did the same thing this afternoon and also called the other mob (who makes things up).

I am going to make an educated guess as to why I think it will be the Tombarra as I have stated before (I 'm sure I may be shot down in flames):

                  a) My NADCON indicates that my car exited the production plant on 21/3/11 and arrived at port on 22/3/11. One day, at most, to get from Pamplona (Spain) to Bremerhaven (Germany), I highly doubt it, unless it was an express train.
                  b) It would make more business/economic sense, I'm guessing, to pick up the Polos from Spain than to transport them by rail to Germany, then ship out again.
                  c) The Tombarra is currently in South Africa and its next stop is Vigo, Spain.....perhaps a pick-up of Polos? After Vigo, it heads to Bremerhaven....perhaps to pick-up Golf's, Jetta's, Audi's and other VW brands?
                  d) The next two ships to depart Bremerhaven, Texas and Taiko, go via the USA. Why would you have Polos on a ship on that side of the world? when the USA don't import them.
                  e) The Polos are more likely to be shipped via South Africa...Tombarra does that route.

Does anyone know for sure if all Polos have to go through Bremerhaven?

                  Let the bullets fly

                  • Mr Joe is a wise man. According to that logic, it does indeed seem the smarter route. Would be interesting to see what we both recieve in regards to responses

                    • Just thinking also, that would make sense regarding the shipment of the "extra allocation" build slots made available to VW oz, why randomly transport cars to Bremerhaven, 1 or 2 at a time to wait at the docks seemingly as these vehicles aren't going down the line together, when there is an international vehicle transportation port in spain...

I wonder if anyone indeed does 100% know for sure that the RHD Polos (I believe it's only the GTI) built in Pamplona gets shipped out of Bremerhaven....

                      • Guys guys guys...
your cars are built... chillax. They'll get here in time!

Bremerhaven is Europe's largest car shipping port. Maybe Pamplona doesn't have the facilities, can't fit the draft of the ship, doesn't have car handling staff, it's not cost effective, doesn't have storage, there could be a million reasons! No need to be calling VW Germany and harrassing anyone. Your cars are built, and they'll be on their way soon enough...

                        • Can't relax, have no more fingernails to chew!

My main reason for asking is I find out that I'm going on holidays around the alleged arrival time and I notice a nice clause within my contract saying if I don't pick up the vehicle with 7 days of being notified it's ready for collection, I forfeit the car to the dealership!

                            • You bring up some good points Corey, but I can't see the harm in just asking for information nicely
But it is still interesting why the Tombarra is docking in Vigo, Spain, just curious that's all.
