Or are you using the fill+click method?
In comparison, my 2005 Polo GTI can only get that sort of average in urban areas if driving at 3am in the morning on freeways and major arterial roads

Certainly seems like the OP has a confused thought process - drives a $40,000 Prius and lusts after a Polo GTIAs a matter of interest, 3 year old Prius's with 60,000ks were selling for $12,500-13,500 at Pickles yesterday. Factor that kind of depreciation into the Prius experience and the running costs are worse than a V8 Commodore or Falcon........Fuel economy of 3.7 means nothing....No way will the Polo GTI drop that much in 3 years.
9.9 is not correct for long term average for a Polo GTI.
The MFD measures the fuel flowing and does a rough calc of the economy, which is pretty OK foir the immediate environment. IE, stop-start traffic combined with 2-3 minutes stationary at each set of lights every 2ks will easily get you to 9.9 or more. Try it in winter when "choke" is applied by the ECU, and it will be higher still.
I have seen 5.9 on my MKV GTI starting from Wheelers Hill to the bottom of the Westgate bridge, on a rare occasion when I caught the 3 traffic lights green. Then again, in winter I have seen 12.9 under similar conditions. Long term average is around 9.0 for all use, and I like to prod it occasionally.sigpic

Seemed a bit on the high side, but not for a demo car LOL.
Would be interested to know based on triode12s fill + click method and combined driving, what any ‘lucky enough to already have'
Polo GTI owners are averaging?
I get better than that in my Golf GTI on average (that's according to the MFI)
Must also do a click + fill for accuracy, just wanted to get a few more ks up firstCurrent ride..MY10 Golf MkVI GTI | 5 dr | CW | < DSG >| Leather| Dynaudio | Sensors | Tint | R tails
