So maybe we still can consider them as German-made even though they're not.
Presumably it's cheaper to transport them across Europe and stick 'em on a boat with other vehicles bound for Australia all at the same time than load some vehicles in Germany and some in Spain and have to deal with berthing at multiple ports.

...for what it's worth, Bremerhaven is Europe's largest car terminal.

      • Thanks Serge.
I'm keen on a sunroof because of where I live (semi-rural); this is the reply from my brisbane dealer -

"Yes the sunroof is an option, but not a panamoric sunroof. Which means it does not cover the whole roof, but it is like an ordinary sunroof that you would see on a hatch like the Golf. The cost of getting one done is $2,100."

I trust he knows his product.

Amazing, especially the cost of it. thats probably the most expensive sunroof in whole VW product range.
Panoramic glass sunroof is $1,700 from factory.

this is the sunroof on the polo. it's a panoramic sunroof (tilt & slide, originally they were going to be Tilt only), which cover the whole section of the front . The only reason VW didn't have this option available earlier to due some body flexing (in such a small car). Apparently they've fixed that problem now.

I've ordered mine with the panoramic sunroof. my last gti didn't have a sunroof so im not doing the same thing again.

                • Leasaunce - the sunroof looks good, I couldn't find a photo. Is $1700 the rrp?
                  I presume it's electric?

                  • Hmmm... maybe I was wise to cancel the GTI. Looks like VW are planning to ditch the twincharger 1.4TSFI in the near future.

                    • This isn't the first time this "rumour" has gone around. Until VW make an announcement, that's all it is... a rumour.

                      • Engines come and go... This one was in the MkV for a while, they have probably found more fuel or maintenance economy in a different design.

                          • The change in motor has got nothing to do with increased power/fuel efficiency.

The current motor is too expensive for VW to produce. Word is that they will most likely they will just change to a cheaper more refined 1.6 ltr Turbo that has a similar power output at slightly higher fuel economy. This won't happen until at least 2012/2013 though.

You just said the 1.6T will have more power and better economy.

                              so this

                              is incorrect

The other rumour is that the 1.6T will power the S1 (maybe the rumoured PoloR) with 220hp. Sounds like alot more power to me.
