I'm gonna ponder this today, but agree Scott is definately on the money. What's the chances of moving the battery back, or drawing air from the passenger foglight shroud area?

It might be worth measuring the pressure drop as was done on the last Polo...
I can see what you are saying and that the flow looks restricted, but if you test it you may see that the intake is not overly restrictive and that cash could go elsewhere...
From memory, it was the MAF that posed the biggest restriction in the last Polo GTI.
