They pretty much blamed the aftermarket audio system in the car, saying that the alternator isn't strong enough to be able to cope with the audio gear. Absolute bull****.

Yeah, it is but the way I look at it so I won't get upset if something goes bung, It's a mechanical component and all mechanical components will at some stage, fail. Out of the tens of thousands out there, if there is a fault rate of under 2%, most companies see that as acceptable and if it's from an external supplier, bar paying a technician to replace it, they will recoup their looses so it's in both parties best interests.
That being said, hopefully it's the last issue!sigpic

Disappointing for a new car though.

We have to accept that the majority of cars are made on a production line and the law of averages is that you are, at some point, going to have a defective part. The more cars you manufacture the more chance of higher failures. I believe VWG make over 400,000 units per year so I guess there must be a certain amount of defects that come off the production line, even though their QC is better than most other vehicle manufacturers. How are you guys? Just found this site by fluke and i must say it has been helpful.
I recieved my Gti Polo 4 weeks ago and have taken it back twice already.I was given this car with a scracth which i didnt mind because they fixed it and there has been a strange rattle on the passenger side. Kind of sounds as if something is loose.
They say that it is ok and they couldnt find anything.
Now last friday the car stopped on me and we came to realise that there was no Oil in the engine!!! Now i refuse to accept this car back as i believe there could be internal damage in the engine? Would it be fair to say that there could be??
Also when i received the car they had not removed the plastic bags from the engine and turbo!!! And i was driving this car for 2 days before we realised it.
My question is how would i know if there is damage on the engine also has anyone had issues with rattles?? It only rattles while i am doing 5-10 km

Rattle Problem, now dead engine
Hey all,
It's almost comforting that I am not the only one with Polo problems.
Got my Polo in early Dec. After 2 months of driving, a rattle that everyone has mentioned could be heard when braking - going 20km and slower and louder when idle. Took it to the workshop and got it fixed. Something about a wrong bracket.
Last week however, when driving out my driveway, I could feel the engine struggling, as if I was driving with handbrake still on. Looked at my dash, noticed that the spanner, or service light was flashing. Car had only 3,000km on it, so no reason for a service. Then the D1, D2 was flashing.
My polo was stuck in 2nd gear! Could not get to third, and was doing 30km/hour with 3000rpm! Called roadside assistance, and by the time they came, the engine could start, but car would not move, even when giving it gas.
Got it towed to the workshop and apparently the mechatronics unit is gone. Will take a week to fix - depending if they can get the parts in early this week.
Did anyone else have this problem?
So annoying for a new car. Spend all this money, and it has been to the workshop twice in the last two weeks. 2010 car of the year which has a dead engine.Last edited by tooheyz; 07-03-2011, 12:21 PM.

And yes, I would say it's a fair bet that there will be some significant engine damage if it has been running with no oil in it. RE rattles, see other posts regarding fuel and AC lines, it could be that....sigpic

The missus dropped her TSI off this morning to have the engine bay rattle sorted along with replacing a rubber seal around the window on the rear passenger door which had split and the one inside the door frame of the drivers door.
After 8hrs they call her with 10mins notice to say pick up your car, we did nothing and parts will be 2 weeks. LOL was she annoyed!
