  • Well not me...however whilst driving to work...a Polo GTI all of a sudden loss power in front of me...glad I was behind him as I knew what had happened as soon as his hazards went on.

So...VW's with a DSG don't lose power all of a sudden eh VW?

    • Gee I just love that burning/oily smell from the engine compartment when the DPF is regenerating... Such a fresh and relaxing smell that is so reassuring of the car's normal behaviour and definitely doesn't smell like the car is about to burn to the ground...

Any advice, anything I should take a look at? Or is it very unlikely to be a problem.
I had a "clunk" noise in my 77tsi after only doing 2000k's!! Took it back to vw and they said it was the bushes in the front end? I got the car back two days later and it's been fine up until last week (23450k's) when I heard that same "clunk" noise, but it only seems to be a one off.

Had a blinking "control system for exhaust" light up just before on the vrs, anything similar in the gti's?

          • Had car in dealer for a couple of warranty issues. Replaced rear hatch strut that had failed and dealt with TPI 2033175 sound actuator vibration.
Tech noticed constant ecu fault P055600 related to TPI 2030355. Anyone know what this fault is?
Dealer in process of installing new computer hardware, doesn't want to risk crashing ecu at the moment so will deal with in a couple of weeks.

            • Got my gti for 2weeks,checking engine oil and notice the coolant level is at just above min. Level. Is that normal when the car leave dealer?they only top it up to just above min. Level? Oil temp been fine at 95 degree highest since day1. Need to worry?

Does the coolant level rise to max when its warmed up with fans kicking in?

                  • Hey,

Does anyone know what would make a squealing noise from the front suspension area when going over speed bumps? I think we may have suspension issues...

With where you have described you live / drive...could be shock absorbers, get your local suspension store to check it out...sounds like general wear and tear rather than a "problem".

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it's the dirt roads that's caused it especially seeming there's a really bumpy (washboard) bit that goes uphill so there's a lot of axle tramp that goes on.

                        Thanks.

                        • For the first time (10,000km driven) I think I experienced a 'false neutral'.

Pulling out of my street in 'manual mode' to get as much power down as possible to get a small gap in traffic. Revs did not go too high, but still in first, the engine lost power while I was on 80% throttle. The power died for around 1 second, then went on FULL 80% power again. It was extremely uncomfortable and very scary.

Is this what is called a false neutral? or did I experience something different? Anyone else had this?

Edit: adding that the engine/transmission was still cold at the time.

As long as it doesn't drop below min when cold its fine.

Kinda, but a full-on false neutral is when you go to take off at lights or pull into an intersection and all the car does is sit there shuddering like its running on 2 cylinders which can only be fixed by pulling the car into neutral and then putting back into a forward motion gear position.

Thanks for the reply Gavs. Is this something I should contact my dealer about? I have a my 12 month service on Thursday.
