This is something I am saving for atm. Can't wait to drive manual mode and not have the dsg still tell me what I "should" be doing.

    • Not sure if this is a problem. But I just noticed that my User Manual (Section 3 - Functions part) is for the older 9N model (I have a 2013 GTI), the back of the booklets also says printed in 2008. Does everyone have this as well?

Surely VW should have made a 6R version! the dashboard looks nothing alike!

      • Sorta off topic, but with all the complaints with the DSG, maybe we should write en masse to VW and ask them to bring the GTI's, R's with a proper manual like most other markets. Because a Golf R and Scirocco have just been calling my name, but that darn DSG. We wanted Golf R but hate the DSG have had experience with it before, Audi, and BMWs SMG. Seriously not good. In theory it's an amazing idea, but its the only let down IMO. Going to try to make our 77TSI manual as quick as we can (engine mods, exhaust, etc) hoping can get close to the GTI'S or even R's (bye bhe warranty) Possible as a friend in Canada has a mid level Golf, which came standard with a 2.5L 170hp engine, but after mods etc, he's putting a bit over 300hp at the wheels. Yes it's heavily modified twin turbo now, but if its possible right. But in Canadia you can get the GTI'S and R's with a 6 speed manual...keep everyone posted with progress, and if you have any ideas or advice shoot them this way. Thanks all. Hope VW gets your DSGs working right ....fingers crossed

You can buy the R and the Scirocco R in manual as well so I don't understand your argument there. By all reports the latest DQ500 seems to be pretty bloody good (compared to the 200 and 250 anyway) an Porsches PDK is a good derivative as well.

The BMW SMG is nothing like a dual clutch gearbox. I've driven an M3 with the SMG and it was horrible, even the lancer ralliart has a better gearbox.

            • Hi guys, I have been having a few issues with my 2011 Polo 77TSI lately, I was wondering if there are any solutions to them. My car has only travelled just over 16,000kms and is a manual.

              1. Engine rattle - like many on here I have experienced an intermittent rattling coming from the engine bay whilst accelerating. It appears to be coming from somewhere directly behind where the pedals are and seems to start whenever I turn a sharp corner and then accelerate. It could be related to the steering, but I am not sure. What are the potential causes of this engine rattle? I have reported this issue at every service at Osborne Park Volkswagen; two parts have been replaced (one under supposed "recall") and at the most recent service I was told that the rattle 'could not be detected'. The rattling is now getting worse and harsher in sound. I'm a bit angry that they have yet to find a fix for the issue, especially given that it seems to be a common problem with Polos!

              2. Acceleration Issues: Occasionally the rattling sound is accompanied by an acceleration problem where the vehicle will either accelerate very slowly, or sometimes not at all. It feels as if the turbo doesn't engage properly leaving the weak 1.2 engine to do all the work. This issue was also supposed to have been fixed by a 'recall'.

              3. Ignition: I'm not very knowledgable on the technical side of vehicles however my Polo has recently been taking longer to start up, I am beginning to think that there might be something wrong with the ignition, as I haven't done many kms and I wouldn't have thought the battery would need replacing so soon.

              4. Squeaky suspension: Whenever I get into the car with the handbreak on the suspension squeaks quite loudly, is this a common thing or should it be looked into?

              5. Seat squeak: Again it's a minor thing but the drivers seat makes a very loud squeaking noise whenever I go over bumps or just go to sit on it. Is this something that can be fixed?

I was thinking of writing to the dealer just expressing my disappointment with these issues and asking if they can be looked into asap. If anybody can give me some advice on this it'd be much appreciated!!

                # 4 – I think you'll find that it's the handbrake itself causing this noise. Try putting the car in first gear (engine off) with the handbrake off and then get in. It shouldn't make the noise. If it doesn't make the noise with the handbrake off then try parking however you normally do, but put the handbrake on more firmly and see if it makes then noise then.

                # 5 – Do you have the optional alcantara/leather seats? They have been known to rattle and squeak a bit.

                  Hi mate,

#4 - I've had this too and pretty sure it's just the position of the handbrake. Mine squeaks if I have the handbrake lightly engaged. If you have it pulled up nice and tight it shouldn't squeak.

#5 - Had this as well, adjusted the seat height and it went away. Play around with the height and see if that helps, I pumped mine up a few times and it's been quiet since.

I think there's been a few people here who've had either faulty sensors replaced under warranty, or the sensor hadn't been coded in the first place.

                      • Was coding on mine.

Anyone with VCDS can fix - Instruments Control Unit: Adaptation, Coding for service interval extension, Oil level thermal sensor not connected to instrument cluster - reset this to "Oil level thermal sensor connected to instrument cluster".

                        Takes a minute to set.

Mine does this until my oil gets above 50 or so.

                          • I'm pretty sure the sensor doesn't read the temperature below 50 degrees C. I borrowed a Golf blue motion and was the same thing just --.-- until it hit 50 then worked as normal. Did it on every start (where the oil was below 50, so in the morning) so I would say that's how it works.

                                Thanks guys.

Unless my oil temp never heats up above 50 deg C then i'd say my sensor is broken
