That just sounds like the normal backlash in the diff.

    • The 7 speed DSG has lots of "clunk" and noises of it's own - most of it is internal in the clutch pack assembly - doesn't seem to hurt anything.

      • I'll have to have a look back in the forum but I was told 3 weeks ago maybe even 4 that my engine is going to be completely replaced after they said only the piston rings were. I recieved a loan car from VW for the time I dont have my car. Difficult to get one I waited two weeks. 3 weeks ago they said they ordered the new engine and by the time I come bck from NZ which was yesterday my car will be fixed. So they would have had an extra week with my car sitting in the garage. Come to yesterday on my flight back at a stop over I called VW dealer and they advised the engine hasn't arrived!! I kindly returned the loan car before I left to NZ for 5 days knowing that when I come back my car will be ready. Wrong. Now I have no car and it's taken two days after they promised they will give me a rental car. I havnt had my car now for two monthly payments and am eager to speak with the AUstralian Consumer Affairs people about this as well as read the document above. I'm not paying $xxx amount each month to drive around in a loan Golf or a rental car...

        • Bassik, what has been said previously (I think it might have been me anyway) is true an as Guy said, the thing is clicking away with the clutch packs and the mechatronics unit all the time. I drive over cobble stones near my girlfriends place all the time and you here it rattle away and it does click and clack away.

Take it to a couple of VW dealerships, not independents and get them to have a look and listen.

Hehe was it you...? Sorry buddy wasn't havin a stab.

Yeah it's booked in at VW as I told them a couple weeks back the DSG failed again on me. I'm keen for them to test it. Also I can almost guarantee this is not a normal sound, its to random and its only recently ive noticed it, a mate from work heard it too and he reckons it aint normal either. Actually I had a recording but couldnt hear it over the traffic but it's there. I'll try again and see if I can get a good recording.

            • COMPLETE BS from the dealer and VW. It's taken 3 days of no rental car organized. I have to use a family member's car and not only organize my own things and work I have to drive them around for work. VW and the dealership could have organized a car for me upon my return when I had already returned the loan car from them, as rather then keeping the loan car whilst I was away for a week, I returned it to be polite. Yet it's taking for ever as they've ordered a new engine in which they should have done so from the start and I know as a fact another dealership would have done this in the first place instead of "replacing" the piston rings which they said after my dealer found out it hasn't fixed the issue! I'm utterly disappointed in their services, firstly taking 3 weeks to get me a loan car, then taking longer for the engine to arrive from Germany (?) is that where the 1.4ltr GTI engine is from?; which is totally out of their control and understandable but now to have the inconvenience of NO car... yet they are they are part of the biggest network of car dealerships in the state they cant just give me something from next door? Certainly lost my services for anything in the future and I know friends are not going there anymore for anything, I would like to print all this with dates, report it to Consumer Affairs and see where it goes.

              • Do it Matt, it's the only way that things will actually get done. Don't be durprised if they hadn't even ordered the engine until you rang them on your way back. 3 weeks seems ambitious regardless unless it's air freighted which I highly doubt due to the sheer cost invloved. You would be looking at (based on airfreight charges I work with) around $10000 in freight alone out of the EU.

The other answer you are looking for is a no. They might be warehoused there, but they aren't made there. THere are 2 plants in the world that make the CAV pltform motors, one is in Austria (supposedly the worse of the 2 factories) and the other I am not 100% sure on it's exact location but I belive it is not in continental europe.... This factory also houses the R&D and development engineering team.

                  • Mine (November 2011) came from the factory in Spain (Pamplona). If im not mistaken that is where the Polo GTI is assembled..when the dealer looked up on the system the production dates and eta on delivery saw it on screen. The engines though im not sure where they come from.

                    • I feel funny but I haven't noticed the rattling sound anymore since getting my car back from the puncture in the left front wheel.

This is what came out of my tyre:

I wonder if this was what was causing the rattling? I'm going to drive home again today without any music so I can hear.

                        • So after 3 days VW say the guys from rental company will call me and organize rental car. 4 days later I finally get the car, which was Today. A few mins ago, the service guy from VW dealer calls me asking have you got a car, what is it, sorry it's not a VW... he then tells me the spare parts are in for my car... I say what spare parts? You mean the new engine? He's like yes, yes the new engine is in. I say so when did it come in? He said today.... he's also eating food at the same time as being on the phone, and I'm waiting for his responses. He says the car will be ready next week, any day next week and he/they will give me a call. I have the rental car for 8 days and if it needs to be extended they will extended. But the car should be ready next week, they will test the new engine and should be working fine. Service isn't that good from these guys, as i've written in the last post. They have lost me once I get my car back!

                            • The dealership could not supply me a part number/engine number as it was still in the crate/box. So two/three days after getting the engine they still hadnt begun the work... Sometime next week then eh...

Sheesh some of us owners can do a better job if we had all the equipment...
