So I got my car back. New engine and all. The dealership advised me that VW direct did not supply an engine number and they just place the previous engine number, the one that was replaced with the original engine. I requested them to find out the build date and other details on my new engine.
Only report - the km reading was not placed back to 00000 which is understandable, they tested the car for about 10kms and washed it.
The throttle/pedal is a bit vibratey and I've warmed up the car and oil in idle. The engine looks clean but not the top plastic cover looks original and when I started the car there was a loud rattle close to pillar A radio speaker. Seems to be gone now.
I will be going to another VW dealer this week as they, I spoke to another dealer told me to come in and let them check everything is OK and done and that's where the rest of my VW business is going.[FONT=Franklin Gothic Medium]Matt

Mine is also the same engine number - and they reuse as many components from your old engine as possible so yes you won't have a new cover. They did replace my waterpump at the same time but apart from that the other components are from the original engine according to the dealer I had mine done at, and that makes sense as all the other stuff is ok. It's illegal to alter the odometer reading ...i was expecting a different engine number though!Originally posted by MJKooLio View PostSo I got my car back. New engine and all. So far mine is doing well with no movement at all on the dipstick, no more black splatters on the back of the car as well so I hope the same for your new engine too

Rebuild vs New are pretty different. To my knowledge, when they say "new engine" which is happening all over the world, they replace the engine block, pistons and rings etc which to me would constitute a new engine number. Clearly not though...sigpic

Had a problem this week, with my car stalling when starting it up to go to work. It has been a cold week in south east qld, anywhere between 0 and 4 in the mornings. Monday after starting it was reving up and down then dropped to 0 revs and stalled, tuesday to thursday, the car just drops to 0 as soon as I start it and it stalls. I had to hold the accelerator to 1000revs to stop from stalling. Usually just turn it on and let it do its warm up thing without intervening. Today not so cold, car was fine. Thinking of taking it in on my next break, I didn't have this problem last winter, thinking there maybe a problem.Last edited by ChristopherJ; 06-07-2012, 08:50 PM.

That is something I would rather NOT apprentices do. Yes it'll be good experiences but doing it to a clients car then having issues with the car is a No No in my opinion. You spend $30-70k on a car and get an apprentice fix an issue?Originally posted by amazeer View PostVW must be pretty good dealers to do an apprenticeship with. With other makes you would only learn to fit accessories and change filters, the occasional timing belt. Getting to do engines, clutches and gearboxes would be pretty special.[FONT=Franklin Gothic Medium]Matt

Hi guys,
I have recently started noticing a vibration/rattling noise coming from the engine bay like a fast ticking noise when idling/braked that seems to go away after acceleration. Looking through this thread it seems others have had similar problems although mine does not seem to be coming from near the dash but throughout the engine bay and there are no obvious signs of pipes touching.
I was also thinking it might be an electrical issue as I first noticed the issue shortly after installing the bluetooth unit. To check this I tried unplugging the headunit but this didn't seem to make any difference.
Planning a 300km trip tomorrow and a bit worried it might be something engine and not rattle related.Last edited by FlyTSI; 08-07-2012, 06:50 PM.

Sounds like a cylinder has deactivated for some reason. This happened to me due to a misfire, but turning off the engine and back on sorted it out.Originally posted by MJKooLio View PostEngine light has appeared twice today now and engine is shaking when idling and shaking the car.MY16 Octavia RS 162 Race Blue Combi
