    • Had this vibration continually there from day one even under light engine load, thanks to guru Gav we established it was to do with the sound actuator.
Gav disconnected it, vibration gone, reconnected it vibration was back......

Now it gets weird.....next morning vibration suddenly not there and so far 7 days on still hasn't returned?
      Hope it stays away

Also there is a service campaign with a software update and Turbo spacers, we'll see how it goes when I get it back this afternoon.

        cheers
Rattle is fixed, they discovered it was the fuel line after all, so we are silent at idle (bliss) full on stealth mode now.

They had some issues with the software upgrade but it got done in the end.

        • Last night going back home, felt a shudder cruising at the Monash Freeway.... after 500m Engine light came on then the EPC light came on.... Car was misfiring and down in power. Called Volkswagen Assist and the RACV dude plugged in an OBD scan tool and it was throwing #4 Cylinder misfire.

Had it towed to Berwick VW this morning, they came back to me and said that all is good no issues with coil pack or injectors, the problem was due to fouling of the plug in cylinder #4.

This is weird stuff, the car is 8 weeks old and 4600KM and fouling already? Might be something wrong with other stuff to cause it to run too rich....

And yes, i also have that annoying soundaktor issue, it was due to be replaced on the 8th of June but they did it today while they had the car and the replacement part is already available.

They asked me to start keeping fuel receipts just as to get some evidence that I am using 98 octane fuel exclusively.

          • Just confirming that you have a GTI, if so, there is an issue in some vehicles with the stock spark plugs that cause dodgy firings and as is your issue, fouls plugs resulting in a miss. Revo Technic for example refuse to put their tunes in a GTI without NGK iridium plugs. Factory plugs are iridiums but seemingly not too crash hot...

              • just got the car back and it seems all fine..no more annoying vibration noise after the soundaktor got replaced.

Looking at the report it seems there were excessive carbon build up on cylinder #4, they just cleaned the spark plugs and reset all fault codes and it seems to be all good.

I am a little sus about the recommendations though:

" 1). Minimise trips of less than 15 minutes
2). and if you do use sport mode...
3). Use 98 octane fuel only ---- DUH!!! I have all the receipts on my fuel purchases.. its all 98 octane fuel!!!

                      • So now I couldn't even check the level after they filled it up to see where it was on the dipstick.
I don't trust them and reckon its been overfilled to cover their asses.

Check with another dealership with your vin or create an account with Erwin and punch in your VIN for 5 euro, then you will get a list of all the service bulletins specific to your car...
Sorry to be a pest, but is it obvious, after you've paid your fees, that there is a service bulletin? I've looked all over after registering and paying, and entering my VIN, but can't find anything that looks like a service bulletin. Either there is none, or I am looking in the wrong place... any hints?

                          • So after the dealer tellin me the piston rings will be replaced - two weeks ago after waiting 3 weeks for them to tell me that! - Friday they call me saying they're replacing the whole engine with a new one and it'll take TWO more weeks. least getting new engine... But will it be the updated engine? The one where they've fixed the oil issues etc that the new Polo GTI's will get from mid this year?

                            • Hi guys

This might have been mentioned in a previous post (have not read them all yet), but bluetooth got stuck today. Made a call and went to hang up but could not. Was on users voice mail for at least 5 minutes, pressing all hang up buttons (on steering wheel control, on RNS, and on bluetooth module), to no avail. On mobile it wasn't even showing that a call had been made. Had to turn off mobile, and a few minutes later it hung up by itself.

More frustrating than anything, who knows it if is an ongoing issue. Feel sorry for the recipient of my voice mail, who probably enjoyed bouts of total silence and some F bombs thrown in between!

                              • Polo TSI - Ongoing issues

                                Hi Guys,

We have had our Polo 77TSI since start of September 2010 and just thought we would chime in with the problems we have had.

So, like many, we have experienced banging from the engine bay when sitting idle, as well as a loud, persistent rattle when accelerating reasonably hard or up a hill. Both where very consistent and very annoying.
The banging was resolved after 3 or 4 attempts with the repositioning and insulating of the fuel pipes. The rattle is STILL ongoing.

Other than that, we have had 3 break downs in the last 1 3/4 years. One had the RACV man come out and disconnect the battery and reconnect it and we were going again.
Another had the EPC light come on the dash and loss of power to the engine (talk about brown pants time, considering I was doing 100 down a freeway at the time!). After pulling over and turning the car off and back on, the light was no longer engaged but the car behaved VERY sluggishly (lost a lot of power). Was able to get it home and then to the dealer. Turns out the Turbo charger system had died and had to be replaced.
The last time it broke down was on my way to work at 6am in the morning. lost power to car, shuddering etc. Had the EPC light, the Engine light, and the 'Oh dear lord, there are no brakes!!!!' come on. Had to have it towed to the dealer this time. they found there was a problem with the Spark plugs and starter system of the car, so they had to be replaced.

After the last breakdown I started noticing a shuddering with the DSG when accelerating from stop. The car would shudder (like it was on the verge of stalling) and no power to wheels for 2 seconds, and would then be fine. Reported this when it was getting its second service (along with again reporting the banging noise), too which they said they just changed the point at which the DSG changes gears and it road tested 100% OK. As soon as I got i the car I experienced it again, so I had to book it in for repairs AGAIN. The next time they had to apply the DSG Clutch repair kit and told me it was 100% fixed. Took it out, and on the way home I tried the Sports mode. Loud grinding/grating noise from the DSG and no power to wheels. So, not fixed. Had to go back in for them to make some more adjustments, and rattle still not fixed.

Then I started occasionally noticing a strange grinding noise from the gear box when the car is just turned on and put in drive. No power would go through to the wheels for around 2 seconds, and there was this grinding coming from the transmission. Only occurred occasionally, so very hard to replicate for the dealer.
Reported this, and the rattle again, and the dealer took the car again. This time they had the car over 2 weeks, said they had found the rattle in the heater box so had removed it, stripped it, insulated it, rebuilt it and retested it, but the rattle was still occurring. So they put in a new heater box.
They also said they were unable to replicate the strange clutch thing, so did nothing to rectify.
Had the car all of 2 minutes before I noticed THE RATTLE WAS STILL THERE. And by the next afternoon the car had done the strange transmission thing when first turned on. This was last week.
Over the weekend I have now noticed that the horn is not working correctly. I have to hold down the horn for a good 4 seconds before it will sound, and then it will sound weak and only stay on a second or 2. Sometimes it won't sound at all.

Contacted the dealer and waiting for a response. I have told them I have had enough and clearly the car is defective. They told me too bad, bring it in for repairs when it breaks and we will fix. When out of warranty they will charge me.
Contacted VW Australia (sent email to their CEO) and got a response that they find this acceptable (how having a less than 2yo car break down 3 times, and having to go back to the dealer 8+ times for repairs is acceptable I don't know) and implied they are simply being generous by even offering a warranty.

I am now escalating this from Consumer Affairs. I have no confidence that the car will last through its warranty, and it will clearly cost us huge money to repair after it has expired.
No idea if we just got a Lemon Polo, or if many of them are plagued with these issues, but it is simply unacceptable.
