On the VW approved oils web page which was posted on this forum...it stated that Castrol Edge 5 W 30 etc were approved oils by VW-AG?
Correct, but you cannot buy Castrol EDGE over the counter in australia, you need to specially order it in. Australia gets Catrol EDGE Sport for the locally built cars.
People constantly argue the point until they're blue in the face about what's in a name, but try claiming warranty on an oil related issue when not using an approved oil, even if you only mention it in passing......
interesting.. mines done 30,000km, had it for 15months; and i thought mine was a lemon but seems not.
I sorted the rattling at about 5000km, seems the fuel line was too short and rattled against the body, so they put a longer one and its fine.
At about 20000km I had check engine lights for a week, they couldnt figure it, then they finaly discovered the turbo pressure valve wasnt installed properly on production line. replaced the turbo, took 3 days, all good now.
Recently the clutch has been slipping and the gearbox shuttering once in a while on the DSG; diagnostics says nothing wrong; still awaiting for the DSG to eventually kill itself by the looks of it...
Stalled at the lights twice on me; apparently common with the DSG.
Rear speaker being replaced when im bothered to go back again because apparently there wasnt foam placed around it so it was touching the door internally and it damaged itself.
Yesterday heard some knocking noises, after having it looked at, apparently theres some piston knocking.. awaiting for that as well.
always service it a bit before due, only drive to uni, outtings and work, mostly motorway driving and occasional sydney traffic. dont lead foot it, especially when cold.. dealer says all faults are factory related..
problem is the engine is too small for the weight.. turbo is too small for the engine; design flaw.
its going to be interesting... never again
2011 VW Polo candy white 77TSI 6R DSG - Sports pack, Audio Pack. Installed: Blue xenon headlights, Pod air filter, Lowered sports suspension, Full flow 3inch exhaust resonator removed and high flow muffler.
My 77tsi had a problem with stalling too that seem to resolve with a software update(it does exist). The car was much better but would occasionally idle rough altough it was much less than before the update. On dealer advice I switched to vortex 98 from bp ultimate and the car is almost perfect.
My Kutec Fiscon Bluetooth has decided to not talk to the car anymore. Phones still find the device, but car doesn't know about it. (No more menu in the MFD, buttons on the steering wheel don't work...)
Booked for a fix this Friday. I'm hoping it's just lost it's coding...

Mine did that within the first week. Dealer fixed it but didn't tell me what the issue was!
Polo GTI - 5 door - Candy White, Xenons, Comfort Package, Audio Upgrade, Bluetooth, Parking Sensors and Tint
Driving along yesterday the EPC light came on and throttle became unresponsive. Pulled over switched off and switched back on and then light was gone. Took to dealer today said there was something wrong with wastegate actuator and replaced a part and also did a software update. Hope all is fine now

Hey JexL,
My Polo TSI (done 18,800 km), the EPC light turned on while going up hill and the engine just felt exhausted like an old man going up the stair case. Apparently i lend it to my colleague while i was in overseas and did the same thing going up hill.
Does anyone has a problem with this?
Since 2010, my Polo have problems such as:
1. The rattling noise - sort of fix.
2. The shudder from the clutch - got this replaced.
3. Now the EPC goes on and went limp mode twice.
I really wonder whether VW is a good brand at all since this is my first time.
I live in Melbourne, does anyone has a good VW service dealer that they recommended?

Just take it to the dealer you got it from its all under warranty. Pretty dangerous issue to hAve lingering around if your ever like turning into a main road and like EPC light comes on that would suck
Did I mention my steering goes severely to the left? If you look at a clock and it's time, I'm driving straight 12 o'clock; I let go of the steering wheel doing 100kph on the fwy and I let go of the steering wheel it goes in the direction of 11 o'clock nearly 10!
Spoke to dealer he said bring it in at service but I want to take it in sooner. Again he babled on a torque steer, same non sense when I did a u turn and steering locked up.
Too much power for a Lil car and it's fwd configuration I say!
Matt...several reasons could be attributed to this. For starters:
1. Camber of the road
2. Tyre pressures (are they correct/even)?
3. Any cross-wind at the time of the 'test'
Torque Steer will appear when under hard acceleration (for eg). The car will want to pull left under acceleration...due to the increasing torque and load of the motor. Sounds to me like they didn't listen correctly to your explanation, if all they have to offer is "torque steer"
