So, went in to a VW dealer today to order a standard polo.... turns out its currently a minimum of 4 months wait. so i was told to expect delivery but november-december. turns out im probably better to save hard and shell out the extra money to get the GTI straight out as I would most likely be getting it at the exact same time as the standard version. problem solved, get the better car by forced saving/waiting time.

Problem is mate, once the GTI is released at end of year, it could be another 4 or 5 months wait to get one!

So in reality, people may not have a GTI in their garage for 12 months from now

I'd buy GTI if it is circa 30k on the road, but personally I don't think I could wait that long.

Hence I'm thinking 77tsi and tune.

        hey btt.

77tsi + tune + custom CAI [piss easy to do a legit job] + dump pipe + suspension + good tyres.... and you've got a car that i would gladly drive in the twisties.

Yeh the order for the missus was supposed to be aug/sep initially but apparently the next polo shipment is nov as you said. Not a big deal for her but it might convince a few people to upgrade to a GTI from launch stock at the time.

How much would this cost compared to the new polo gti and the old gti?

well, you'd be looking at something like this:

              tune: $1500~
custom CAI: $200 [good filter + parts from bunnings]
              dump pipe: $500-$600
suspension: $1300 and up for good stuff, $400 for just springs [which mightnt be such a bad initial option, and you'll be able to buy peoples' stock 6R gti shocks/ springs on here for pretty cheap, once the modders on here start doing stuff to their cars]
tyres: $same as what you'd usually pay.

so say, budget around $5k to mod a 77tsi at the "heavy" end of the "moderately modified" scale.

which will give you a ripper little car, but still undercut a $33,000+on road costs 6R gti by quite a bit [potentially a fair bit more than $5k].

like everyone knows, the gti will always be the superior car, but i reckon you CAN have your cake and eat it too, with the 77tsi. quite easily.

keep in mind, it's only a tiny 1.2lt engine with one turbocharger. the potential results of ''moderate'' modification, however, are frigging fantastic, if you ask me.

p.s. i type the above from the perspective of someone who's all for tiny engines, optimised. i will GLADLY drive a modified/ optimised 1Liter engine, with ~100kw and ~200+nm, with all the suspension mods etc, when vw start producing even smaller engines
