Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo gti 1.8 2017 water pump

Hey all. My water pump for my 1.8 GTI is leaking unfortunately. How much should I expect to pay for a replacement? I'm located in Melbourne S.E.

Which brand is best? Genuine or aftermarket

Any good work shop recommendations? Thanks all

This is a big job I'm afraid. Nose off for easiest access (I have done this personally on 2017 GTI) though I have heard it can be done with the nose still on. Anywhere up from $2500 if you let a workshop do it.

If you use a workshop, they will generally refuse to use a part given to them by you (warranty of their work reasons), so they will select and choose a replacement part.

If you do it yourself or with help from a friend, then locally the best price generalle is from VAGPARTS. Can do cheaper from overseas (Europe and even USA) and quite a bit cheaper if you buy from China (still generally OEM quality as it is made for VW China).

      Hi.

      Bought an INNA one.

Installed it today. Took all day pretty much all day.

Very tight fit - bumper off is probably the best way like you said.

The videos online for the 2.0 help but still a little bit different.

      Thanks!

      Not a fun task

Good outcome! Taking the nose (bumper and radiator cradle) off (cradle swung out of the way without disconnecting AC pipework) is probably a 1-hour job (if you have done it a few times). Saves a massive amount of time and pain getting access to the waterpump.

This job is already a pain with the nose on, on a MK7, in the Polo it would be nightmare, you did well!

This was on our 2017 Polo GTI
