Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Small oil stains under car

6 days ago, noticed 2-3 small oil stains under the car. Since then, 2-3 small oil stains after the car has been driven. There are no puddles of oil, and the level on the dipstick has remained steady with no change.

The car had an oil change 7 weeks ago.

    Any ideas ?

What have you done yourself to trace it?????????

Probably the apprentice spilled some and its worked its way down and now dripping off the undertray. Where exactly under the car is it, left or right side. Get down and see where the drips are on the tray.

It’s probably just oil leaking from your sump plug. Either its not quite tight enough or perhaps the mechanic didn’t replace the crush washer when they changed the oil.

Drips are more right side. Will get under and see if I can trace it.

Had a look under and found 2 spots on the undertray where oil had dripped, both right side. Didn't see any oil dripping.

I will take the car back and have them check the sump plug. Until then will monitor oil levels.

Turned out to be leaking from the oil filter housing seal.

I have the same. I ordered the seals and orings, I am doing it in the coming weeks.
Did you do it yourself or the workshop? How much did they charge you?
