  • 2011 Polo 77TSI Engine turns off while driving

Driving normally a month after the standard 7 year service the engine just turns off! The only light on the dash is the battery light. I was able to start the engine again and drive but 5 minutes later it cuts off.

Roadside assist checked the battery and engine codes - all good. I was just about under a quarter tank left (450km on the trip meter) in the tank. Got the car towed home and managed to start the engine again to fill her up and the car was fine.

Car hasn't cut out since. I'm thinking maybe the fuel pump - anyone got any ideas?

how did you go? a friend of mine had this issue. it was an oxygen sensor that had failed on his VW. Also happened to one of my nissan back in the day.

Could also be a fuel filter...

I haven't had it checked out yet as I haven't had an issue with the car since keeping the tank always above quarter tank now.

VW said they would take a look at the car for a $165 and advise on repair costs.

Are you keen to work it out yourself or let the dealer do it? Often the high pressure fuel filter is glossed over in services but it's definitely something you could replace yourself if it's overdue before taking it in to the dealership.
