Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Recommend me a service place on the Sunshine Coast near Maroochydore please

Polo needs its 7 year service so Timing belt and waterpump needed Been quoted $1300? from dealer.

Surely an independant can do better.

Googled it and come up with Andrews Hitech, Continental Car repairs at Caloundra (a bit far away) and SVS at Kunda Park.

    Any recommendations on these please.

Passat also coming up in June.. Oh the pain

Dont know will have to read the service manual but the dealer didnt say when I asked the cost of a 7 year service. Manual says toothed belt and tensioner at 120,000km car has only done 22,000 since Jan 2011 but I read its that or 7 years

Manual is not entirely specific to the car, or the Australian market.

Timing belt, where fitted, is due every 105K or 7 years in Australia.

                It's chain-driven. No timing belt.

Hence my mentioning that the book is not specific to your exact car.

Well thats probably worse after all the slipping tensioners so it will still need to be done wont it.

No one has recommended anyone to do it yet though and for some reason this thread doesnt show up in new posts on my computers

No service interval on the chain. You replace it, and it's associated parts when it fails, or is failing.

Unless it's making a racket, or the water pump is no longer pumping, or has sprung a leak, leave it be.

Hard to recommend someone on the Sunny Coast actually, I've tried a few, and sent friends and locals with Euro cars to several and am yet to find anyone who is a stand out. SVS did good jobs for some of my doctor mates, but they sure as hell charged for it. Nobody has done a poor job, but nobody has impressed me as yet. The local Skoda dealer is pretty good for me, but even they spilled oil all over my engine last basic oil change service, and just degreased it, and I had to pull the tray and clean it out properly to get rid of the oil smell. Been doing my own servicing since.

I have used Andrews a couple times, on our old Polo we had timing belt done and good job, but they arent cheap..
We have our 2011 Golf GTI in there at the moment getting the chain tensioner + casing done, costing $1027, expensive
