Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Can VW Dealer share service records of car?

I'm looking to buy a Passat wagon, 2016 onwards, maybe a TDI, or an R-Line version, or an Alltrack (Alltrack is what the heart wants at the moment!)

I'll get an independent inspection of any car I plan to buy, but wondered if you call a VW dealer with the VIN if they'd share the service records for the car? If servicing was done on time, or if DSG flushes carried out etc. Or even if it's been in for repairs during its warranty period?

IF IT was serviced at a dealer. No guarantees on that. You can only ask and tell them why you want to know

There would be a privacy issue with that...

If purchasing privately, just ask the seller to check out the Service Book (or any additional invoices from service etc.)

If purchasing from a dealer, once again, just ask to see the service books and if it is indeed a VW dealer, then I am sure they could help you out. If it is another dealer, say a Toyota Dealership, it might be a bit harder.

You could always try and see what the dealer says when you call with the VIN, they might be able to give you "general" info relating to the car.

For reference, the TDI is called Highline.
The R-Line version, I can only assume you are referring to the 206TSI R-Line.
But you could get the R-Line package on Comfortline and Highline as an option package.
      The Comfortline is a 132TSI.
The Alltrack is a 4-motion and would be a good pick!
      What is your budget!!!

I love my Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition!!!

Yeah privacy was the issue I'd thought about, I guess I was thinking the service schedule in the book might be falsified, but to be honest I'd be looking at 2016-18 cars anyway, so can't expect many to still be serviced at dealers by then anyway! But knowing if it had had any crazy warranty issues in its past might be interesting, thinking the classic waterpump etc.

I'm referring to a R-Line package really, the 206TSI would be nice, but probably out of budget for now!
I'm torn between the nice blacked out interior of the R-Line package and the sweet looking steering wheel it comes with, versus the slightly higher riding Alltrack and the practicality that brings! I recently had an Outback, and enjoyed the 50/50 AWD that had, learning the Alltrack is only predominantly 90/10 takes a bit of the shine away, but then 99% that's of course all it needs to be, and I'm sure has more modern electrical wizardry than the Subaru to compensate and kick in when needed.

The VW dealership should be able to generate a service record report for the owner. I've had one done for a previous car I sold.

Maybe ask the seller for one?

              Ooohh super interesting.
I had a look on carsales, these seem an interesting spec too, do they all have halogen headlights, or are the pics deceiving me? I thought between the halogens and LEDs I'd got good at spotting the differences! (Google says all Wolfsburg's have LED lights, maybe the design of them is different to the normal LED ones?)

And you get flappy paddles, that's cool, but 19" wheels, I should prefer these, but I think I want grandad comfort spec 18's

I'm maybe a few months away from purchasing, trying to keep it under $20k
My desire list is LED headlights, I'd really like the massage seats. Not overly fussed by panoramic roof, and the newer nav would be good.

They have full LED headlights, in VW speak, they are called "Basic" LED Headlights.
They have a "reflector" housing, apposed to a "reflector" housing of most LED Headlights assemblies.

19" is fine, very comfortable with DCC.

Good luck finding one under $20k though...
