  • 2021 passat 206 rline downpipe with cat noise

Hi all. I am working towards a stage 2 from 034motorsport.
I have stage 1 and I'm about to install a intake and turbo elbow along with a downpipe, which I'm yet to buy.

I want the car to sound as standard as possible to minimal noise increase.
Has anyone done a high-flow cat down pipe with standard exhaust and a stage 2?

I'm.interested to see just how loud a catted downpipe will make the car.

My Arteon is Stage 2 (RacingLine) with a high-flow catted downpipe (Miltek) going into a standard exhaust.

There's practically no difference in sound that I can tell. The downpipe and connecting pipe are 3" and the end just shrinks down to OEM to fit into the resonator.

The only thing I get is a little rattle from that area when the car (engine/exhaust) is hot - I assume it's very close to something and with heat expansion, it's just touching. Plan to take a close look next time it's up on on a hoist.

Plan to upgrade the rest of the exhaust at some point with a Milltek. It's just not a huge priority atm, given the tiny (if any) improvement for the relatively high cost.

Thank you. This is the answer I was hoping for. I'm happy with some extra noise when the foot goes down... but I'm too old to deal with loud cold starts and too many pops and bangs.
I love the 206's sleeper style too much

As above, an aftermarket catted downpipe with a standard exhaust will have minimal effect on noise. It might be 10% lounder on the outside.

Yeah, I'm the same - people don't expect it in the stealth arteon .. popping/cracking/backfiring sounds also make me think there's something horribly broken.

If/when I upgrade the exhaust I plan to go fully-resonated, so should only be a small increase in volume. I think most of the sound I hear is from that lame soundaktor anyway... have turned it down to 50%, but this is a good reminder to turn it off completely.

It would be great if there was a resonator that could be bypassed with a press of a button (like AMGs etc), for the rare occasion that you want to go animal-mode, or just signal slow cars to just back-off and you're not trying to race (just taking off normally). I wonder if it'd be possible to weld up something using a spare exhaust valve/flap?

Have you done much/any other work to your 206 rline? I can highly recommend a throttle controller if you haven't already got one - really transforms the standard lazy/sluggish throttle response and makes stage 2 more fun.

Thanks for the confirmation mate, I appreciate it

Don't have a throttle controller. I found the stage 1 tune from 034 did wonders for the laggy feel in the pedal. I don't mind a smooth pedal feel, but the way they set up the passat to feel was horrible.

The passat doesn't have a soundaktor that I know of. Its very very quiet inside. Maybe I need to get a obdeleven and see what the go it there.

And I believe you can get like a Varex setup which has a valve that opens in the exhaust muffler... but it is manually opened with a remote and not programmed into the "modes" which would be handy like the Golf Rs have

This kind of thing is what you are talking about. Open the valve and it will bypass the muffler XFORCE Varex Y Piece 2.5" With Remote Block Off Valve S/S Exhaust Cut Out | Sparesbox

That's the thing. Would be good for a laugh and for the low cost

I have a 206 Stage 2+ Revo with CTS Turbo sports catted downpipe to resonator delete (they just cut out the suitcase)
Sounds with windows up is pretty much normal, but with windows down it does sound more like a stock 7R or 7R with just exhaust tips. I assume mostly from the res delete. I’d say go with the intake mods first then go with downpipe when/if u get the stage 2 done. With revo they activate the exhaust overrun in S mode (not profile but physical sport mode) so above 3k rpm I get some pops but only turned on in tunnels.
I’ll get a cat back later, it isn’t a priority atm.
What I recall on the Passats is that they do in fact have a valve but it’s stuck open (even tried closing it on OBDEleven)
The only time I have a rattle of some sort is during cold starts in reverse.

I made a video with sound differences (sorry to self plug, also shot on iPhone)

Golf R ones fit. If you have a wagon you may need a 40mm adapter however I did not need one for my wagon. Straight fit from a Golf 7 R CTS turbo catted downpipe (200 cell cat)

I didn’t buy it new (2nd nz owner) but shouldn’t heated front windscreens be in all cars? Do you mean vents to the windscreen for when it fogs up or all the time heated?
I don’t believe it is heated but it works as normal with AC
