  • DQ500 DSG gearbox question.

My Passat 240bhp came with the DQ500 DSG box. Mileage is 160,000 miles ( 256,000 km). Having an annoying grumbling slightly rattly flywheel for the last while while i decided to bite the bullet and get it replaced.

The dealer rang me to say the clutch pack also needs replacing. Is 160k a respectable mileage for the clutches or should they have lasted longer?

Are you sure thats a DQ500? Does it have 7 gears or 6?

Yep. The Passat 2.0 BiTDI 240bhp comes with the 7 speed DQ500.

We dont have that one here to my knowledge. But the clutches in a DQ500 hold back much more powerful engines than your passat. Same box in the RS3.
Not to say that they cant fail though. If the flywheel rattles, thats a different job.
        Is it actually slipping?

No , it wasn’t slipping. Apparently when they hooked it up to their diagnostic equipment they could tell they were coming to their end of life, some measuring block reading. However i’m being running 290bhp remapped since the car was new.

Do you have a tune on the DSG? some tunes, I think mess with the measuring blocks to increase clutch pressures.
