Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Project pACC!

    Hi Everyone!

Hope y'all having a wonderful Sunday!

I'm starting this new thread as I'm considering the project pACC (Predictive Cruise Control). I've noticed posts in some other foreign forums where members have successfully activated pACC.

I did manage to contact some "experts" and they've agreed to help me out as well.

However, the challenge is that I needa VAS5054A cable and of course, need to replace the front radar, as they mention the current radar does not support pACC. After replacing the radar, they can activate pACC through remote desktop, the whole process taking 2-3 hrs.

Has any member taken such an approach? Anyone willing to join me?

    regards,

    Nitin

From my understanding, it also relies on map data... Australian Maps dont have as much data embedded in them unlike overseas, hence why Speed Sign recognition is hit & miss?

The predictive elements of the assist system seems to work well enough in my wife's A4 when on cruise control. Not sure that I would go to the trouble or expense of doing such an upgrade on my Passat though - 'normal' ACC does the job there. The A4 does not have speed sign recognition though, so does not change speed zones automatically - just slows for corners.
      Cheers

Well, no technology is perfect enough. The TSR works well for me, though MRWA has placed traffic signs in such a way it confuses the system at times, e.g. there will be a speed sign on the freeway for 100 and a 70 for the exit. At times, both will be detected and TSR gives a speed warning.

I did have a discussions with a few people in Europe and they too have this issue. pACC sometimes does brake or give warnings. This is not unique to AU but globally. What they do is to use ACC if they feel pACC will be troublesome. The guys in Europe are also trying to see if they can use Google Maps or similar, instead of relying on VW maps; nothing concrete so far.

Need to purchase a VAS5054A and then explore how I can swap the front radar without damaging the mounting. The calibration can be down using software if the mounting is not damaged.

Will keep you posted as I progress (IF).

the australian VW/Skoda map data is not even good enough for TSR to work in fusion mode - hence the chances of pACC working reliably here, as a result, would b piss poor.
Audi uses different map data, hence why it can work for them.

also, it is my understanding u need SWaP codes to activate the pACC function.

          nonetheless - good luck.

            Hey Darkshadow!

            How have you been?

Yes, I do need to swap the radar to the 3QF model and then have the component protection removed, along with SWaP/FEC codes and coding. I also need a VAS5054A interface.

There are a couple of gentlemen in Europe who have done for others and have agreed to assist me remotely.

Indeed, the maps part worry me a bit, still researching on that part before ordering the radar

            Cheers!

I need to correct you there, the map data for VW/Skoda is the same as used by Audi, it is just that each one uses slightly different information imbedded within the maps. In fact VW unique maps has additional information like the "no overtaking" warnings on my daily commute which Audi does not.

                  Hi Flipper Dog,

So are you saying the maps are fine? That would be a great relief and I can then place order for the new radar.

                    Current Update:

A new radar needs to be ordered.

However, before placing the order, need to be sure traffic recognition in fusion works, else pACC may only work partially.

I need to update the software for the A5 module (as told by the person assisting me) and then see if fusion works. If it then works, well and good.

However, updating the software requires the VAS5054A, which is en-route.

have u not enabled TSR yet on ur Passat?
i've enabled TSR on mine, and it is currently set "Road Sign Detection". i get a warning at start up (after 100m of driving) saying "Dynamic Road Sign Display currently restricted". the camera continues to work, and only traffic signs recognised by the camera is shown. no map data is shown.

if is set it to Fusion mode, TSR doesn't work altogether and throws an error, saying "No road signs available"

wat is the part number of the "new radar"?

                        Hi,

I've got TSR but on TSR mode. It does not work on fusion mode, for which a software update is suggested. If the fusion mode works after the update, the pACC project is worthwhile.

                        The radar part number is 3QF 907 561 D

Good luck with the software update and the radar.
Keen to see how it pans out.

                            Hi Everyone!

                            Here's the current update:

Flashed the A5 control module to the latest firmware. However fusion mode does not work.

pACC can still work if the radar module is replaced to the model that supports it and follow the activation procedures, but with some caveats: This pACC will only react to speed signs, i.e., when it detects a speed sign, it slows down or speeds up, however, it wont be able to predict from the maps on the speed signs that are about to come.

Having said that, it will still be able to detect the bends, slopes/ramps and slow down/speed up.

Trying to see if there still exists a workaround to get the fully functional pACC.

                              Hello Everybody!

Hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and now all geared for the New Year

I had not given up on this project but was busy with work related schedules so could not give much time to this.

However, I have had quite some time during this Christmas and I must say, I've had success!

I have successfully managed to activate pACC in my Passat.

The project started with the purchase of a new a new radar, as my existing radar wont support pACC.
This was the easiest step and took less than a week to arrive.

The next step was to take a backup of all the existing codings, admaps and blockmaps
Next comes the radar swap, activation, component protection removal, coding and adaptations.
                              Calibration follows next.
I had also update the firmwares to the latest
There were lots of errors because of the radar swap and the firmware upgrades which needs to be cleared.
pACC options will be seen in the radio menu and cluster.

Took the car for a test drive. pACC works great! It uses the maps info for intersections, roundabouts etc, traffic signs from the camera. The car slows proactively for lower speed signs and speeds up exactly after the higher speed limits. If you were to use navigation to some destination, it appears to use the maps info, traffic info etc.

Overall, its marvellous and I'm quite happy.
