  • RE: ATE Ceramic Brake Pads & ATE Rotors

    Hi All,

Just thought I would share some info if you are interested.

I have purchased the following ATE items direct from Germany (as part of Black Friday Sales) to replace the original pads and rotors.

ATE SL.6 Dot 4 ISO Class 6 Brake Fluid ATE brake fluids

ATE Ceramic Brake Pads ATE Ceramic brake pads
    (front) Article No. 13.0470-2785.2 / 25684, 25683
    (rear) Article No. 13.0470-7294.2 / 25011, 25009

ATE Coated (High Carbon) Vented Rotors (312mm) Original ATE brake discs
    (front) Article No. 24.0125-0158.1 / 425158

    ATE Coated Solid Rotors (300mm)
    (rear) Article No. 24.0112-0210.1 / 412210

For your info, here are the original part numbers also.

    Original Volkswagen Part Numbers;
    - (front) 312mm Rotor - 5Q0698151F
    - (rear) 300mm Rotor - 3Q0615601A
    - (front) Brake Pad - 5Q0698151F
    - (rear) Brake Pad - 3Q0698451C

All parts are confirmed for a MY18 VW Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition.

Please note the original pads and rotors are still in good condition (with less than 20,000kms on the ODO) and the original parts are more than adequate. The benefit of the ATE Ceramic Pads is lower brake dust and sometimes I just like getting new things and doing a complete job. All other factors / braking performance should remain the same!

I will report how they are once received and installed.

Last week I bought front and rear ATE Ceramic Brake Pads (for 125i Brembo Brakes) from a Poland parts seller, the UPS shipping was 50 euro. Still saves $100-$150 comparing local seller.

Just curious how much shipping are you paying for your lot?

$700AUD delivered (for all the components including shipping), shipping cost was $150AUD with DHL (tracked).
I had been quoted over $1,000 from local suppliers and a similar price for Genuine VW Parts.

It's a real shame that these components aren't more reasonably priced in Australia.

I even had one company tell me that they wouldn't ship from NSW to QLD as Aust Post would not deliver due to the weight!
No option to arrange a courier either...

        Thanks mate!

The shipping is so cheap considering their weight.

Too much price mark up from local sellers, otherwise I don’t mind buying locally.

Did you buy direct from ATE or a reseller?

Thanks for sharing, I just checked the parts I bought from my seller, the price is on bar (mine is a few of $ cheaper).

The UPS shipping is fast, one week.

All parts arrived on the 12th December.
The longest hold up was in Australia...

Anyway, just have to wait now to get them installed!!!

Will be really interested in your feedback on these. My Wolfsburg has ~40k km on the clock so I’m guessing I’ll be due for brakes soon. My wife’s Comfortline will be due soonish too.
                      Cheers

I have used ATE ceramic on another car (MC Mondeo) about 5yrs ago.
Worked really well back then too.

                        So far so good.
Just have the bed in process now and let them get a few kms...

For some reason my pictures are coming up sideways, but the biggest reason for the change was the rear drivers side rotor had corrosion on the "outside" face. Aesthetically this was not good, but it was obviously not good for the car either as the outside pad had about 2-3mm of pad left, however the inside was near perfect (6-7mm of pad). However all other pads had even wear.

A sticking caliper perhaps? Well no, as the slide pins were working fine and no evidence of a blue / overheated rotor either.

Volkswagen were not interested in a warranty claim either. They just claimed it was environmental / salt etc.
I have been told this can occur during transport to Australia...

Anyway, I will now just enjoy dust free brakes!Click image for larger version

My left rear rotor started corroding as well so i just painted them all black. I just put down to poor factory finishing.

                              Another quick update.

There is no squeal or noises coming from the brakes.
The brake pedal is nice and solid, just like the OEM brakes (which were ATE pads anyway).

And the brake dust is almost non-existent!

Rather than black dust it has a silver/gold dust that blends in with the wheels, so essentially making it appear like no dust at all!

Washing the wheels is easier too as it just sprays off without having to worry too much.

                              Overall, money well spent!

                              I hope this helps others!!!
