Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Predictive ACC - Predictive Cruise Control

The Arteon has Predictive Cruise Control or Predictive ACC as a feature, but you cannot order the Passat B8 with it from factory.

Is it possible to retrofit this cool feature from the Arteon in the Passat B8 and what would it take?

The car will decrease speed when approaching a turn. In ACC

Uses fusion of GPS/map data and Front Assist Camera/radar to control speed.
In Bentleys I understand it also has topographical info in the map data to preselect gears if you start going up an incline etc

          That's not predictive. That's anticipative.

Predictive - 'relating to or having the effect of predicting an event or result.'
Anticipative - 'of or relating to prediction'

It's semantics...plus most people can't pronounce 'anticipative', nor can their predictive text suggest it as a possible word...

But there is a difference. Predicting something is more of an absolute. Anticipating something leaves grey area. That's my understanding anyway.

Neither are an absolute, as neither may actually occur. Both are educated guesses.

Would certainly be good here with all the round abouts, if it worked well.

Oh no! Someone disagrees with how VW named their predictive ACC feature! Whatever will we do
                  Cheers

But, is it possible to retrofit?

Need a full scan of an arteon including adaptation channel maps to compare against a B8 to try and figure out if it's a Feature Enable Code or just coding/adaptation. Could also be a parameter set for a module like A5, or 5F....

True, I think it must be a module i.e. new hardware. I cannot find anything with VCDS.

there is a couple of options in the long coding to do with this, one puts the option in the MIB and the other won’t change

Ok, interesting. What does it say the option in the MIB?

I may have got it a bit wrong, looking through the coding it was to do with speed limit cruise and not with corners, it was discussed here somewhere with pics I’ll see if I can find it
