  • HELP!!! Car Damaged at Dealer While Servicing!!!!

    Hi All,

I took my MY12 125TDI wagon in for its 75K service at a Perth dealer where the car was bought from and where every service was carried out. I noticed 5 days later that there was a depression on the passenger rear door near the bottom.

    The timeline:

Sunday 06/08 washed the car by hand. No damage to rear passenger door.
Monday 07/08 car serviced at dealer
Saturday 12/08 notice damage due to noticing how the light reflected off it.

I will ring the service manager tomorrow, but do you have any suggestions??

To add injury to insult, the service report stated that the front lower control arm bushes were split $556. I took it to my friend at the local Bob Jane for a second opinion. The left bush was slightly worn, and the mechanic suggested it should be good for another 75k. Not happy with this over servicing BS.

Time to move to a reputable independent.

How many times did you park the car in public since the service ?

Ask for the damage report that they fill out at handover.

          Hi All,

Good news of sorts. The dealer very quickly arranged to have the panel damage repaired by paintless dent removal at their expense.

The only thing that irks me is the upsell on questionable repairs.

What do you consider questionable repairs?

Good news on the bingle being fixed though.

Refuse to buy the repairs, it is your choice. If they consider it a safety issue they note it on the paperwork and you acknowledge it.

                Hi All,

                Just another update.

The paintless dent repair guy informed me that the depression was in a position that would not repair properly. So it's off to the paint shop to see what they can do.

As per my original post, the dealers noted that there is a split rubber bush on the lower front control arm. I had it checked out at Bob Jane, they showed me the bush and informed me that it was not split and that the wear was commensurate with the kms and that it should be good for another 75k. If i didn't know an honest mechanic, I could have been up for $600.

Damaging the car, and hoping to sell a bush should be treated as two seperate things.

Bearing in mind that they have come to the party on seeing to the damage.

It would be interesting to see if this particular workshop has it's technicians on an upsell bonus scheme, because new bushes tend to pay pretty well if the customer ok's it.

my R36 tail light was cracked whilst in the care of a VW dealership. They were very upfront to the damage when i arrived to pick it up and had a new one already on order from sydney.
glad to hear you had it all sorted out (sort of) even after 5 days.
