  • Hidden treasure under passenger seat

    Hey

So I was busy installing my 9WZ Bluetooth module this evening. I was planning on putting it under the passenger seat as from videos online and the length of the wiring harness this seemed to be where is meant to be installed (I could be wrong). Anyway when I looked under the plastic cover down there I found what I can only think is an amp. It has a fairly hefty heat sink around it. Can anyone shed some light?

Hey, yep looks like the standard amp not the Dynaudio one.

Generally the Bluetooth module gets installed under the drivers seat if you got the black foam surround which the Bluetooth unit sits in.

Thanks. Didn't realise I had an amp at all. If I dont have the black foam bit is there anywhere else I can put the module?

Generally if it came with the basic Nokia Bluetooth module then those are installed behind the head unit, rns510 I'm presuming. However the 9wz is quite a bit bigger, I didn't think it would fit behind there easily so I popped mine under the drivers seat, you should be able to get the foam off eBay and it will sit snug under there

Yeah I checked behind the RNS510. Definitely not enough space. I'll get me one of those foams. Thanks!

Trust me guys, there is enough space to wedge the 9W7 behind the RNS510 head unit. That is where mine is, installed by a sponsor of the forum, who I won't name. Not a very professional job (done when my car was a year old) but I haven't had any issues with the Bluetooth working as it should, touch wood....

Is that with the std wiring loom? Never mind the module I doubt the length of wiring loom on mine would fit back there!

I have no idea. I was getting an RVC configured at the time, and the guy who sold it to me, who installed plenty of 9W7 kits, just shook his head. It's more work to thread the wiring from under the seat up into the roof console for the microphone. Stuffing it behind the headunit means you have to take off a lot less trim panels and it is less cost (no foam surround to buy.)

If I was installing it, I would have done it properly. But my car was originally optioned with the 9W2 and the first owner upgraded it to a 9W7 and told this forum what a good job the installer (forum sponsor) did, which was crap...!

Must of been with the new wiring loom due to the differences in the connectors on the Bluetooth modules. Surprised they got it to fit back there as I'm guessing there's a male to female quad lock connector so no wiring splicing is needed.....
