Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Burble on upchange without a DSG?

Hey guys, was just watching a few videos on youtube of Passats and saw that some of them seem to have that signature DSG burble when they change gear, however these seem to be the tiptronic or torque converter autos. Can anyone confirm whether it's possible? Sounds pretty nice haha

    Those are a few examples

Gear changes sound too slow to be auto or DSG in my opinion.

      You reckon?

The same guy has this video of an in car run. Description says Tiptronic.

Yeah Tiptronic is just a conventional auto box. We have it here in the 2L FSI non-turbo B6 Passats. Everything else was a DSG.

Mods for that car seem to be: Revo Stage 1, ATP Intake, Catless Downpipe, Resonator delete, Godspeed Intercooler, BSH Oil Catch Can (PCV Fix).

Confirming it's an auto of some description based on the reflection in the window.
I've noticed some of the golfs do this as well. One of the reasons I snapped up a vw DSG thinking I'd get that (as op says sounds cool) but I haven't noticed it. Having said that, it wasn't noticeable in the in-car run compared to out of the car so maybe I do get it...I'll pretend I do

            It's engine mapping related.

Maybe a resonator or muffler delete will make it more pronounced haha. Otherwise, stage 1 APR it is!

I'm looking into buying either the 2.0t with the conventional auto or a 3.2 dsg... Not too sure which to go for. The 2.0t has done 120k, most service history at vw, timing belt done. The v6, 80k, full service history at vw I believe. 2.0t 8.5k v6 12k

The 3.2 VR6 and DSG are less likely to cause you grief.

Plus they sound awesome when the exhaust is freed up a bit.

You reckon the dsg will cause less grief than the standard auto on the 2.0t? That's my only worry to be honest. I've heard of some issues with the fuel pumps on the 2.0t though.

                  Time will tell I suppose.

What you say about the exhaust on a 3.2L is both interesting and encouraging. My only experience listening to modified exhausts is via YouTube clips. Not the most reliable way of hearing it accurately!

On the YouTube clips I've listened to, the R36 3.6L engine with a modified exhaust sounds deep and throaty suggesting lots of power. The 3.2L sounds higher-pitched and a bit thin and raspy. To me it sounds like a smaller car such as a Golf and I was wondering if it would sound out of place on the larger Passat. For example:

                        2007 Passat B6 3.2 litre V6 4Motion | Granite Grey | standard 17" Solitude wheels | tow bar
Mods: R36 steering wheel | HP DQ250 DSG tune | HPA Haldex performance controller | Koni sports yellow shocks | Eibach springs | H&R sway bars | Whiteline ALK | Kufatec E-MFA add on | Garage door button | Warning triangle retrofit | Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003s

From experience, they sound pretty much the same, straight out the join in the centre section

Perhaps keep an eye out for someone offloading a stock R36 exhaust system.
