• R36 Dropping 1st, clutch problem? or normal DSG shenanigans?

    Hi guys,

i know there are about a million dsg threads everywhere.

i thought i would upload my video to see what you guys think, and see if this is normal...?

the scenario is: got my foot on the brakes at a dead stop then i lift off the breaks all the way but don't press the accelerator at all. the car shunts forward then drops the gear and the revs drop simultaneously..... (as in the video) blink and you'll miss it! you might have to watch it a few time to see the MFD display drop the gear and the tacho dropping the revs.

even if try again and take off as normally under light acceleration, it doesn't entirely drop the gear but the car bunny hops like im a learner driving a manual SO EMBARRASSING, there is absolutely nothing i can do to prevent this other then stomping on it all the way to the floor. the bunny hopping is worse in reverse and even worse up a hill in reverse.

its an 08 R36. with a very good service history 95km on the clock. only had the car since about August and im ready to move on if this is an inherent problem that as a DSG owner you just have to live with.

is it the gearbox, or does a clutch need replacing or is this normal?

Pretty normal for it to default to 2nd if you get indecisive.

Try a soft reset on it (can't recall the exact procedure, but it'll be easy enough to google), and see how you go.

Being an '08, the later ones were a lot nicer to use. A software update via the dealer, might help, if there is one for it.

Try this can't remember if it is correct but worth a shot

1 Put your key in the ignition and turn ignition to the on position (don't start the engine!)
2 Hold down the gas pedal pressing the button under the pedal for at least 20 seconds.
3 Let foot off pedal and start car. Be sure that you do no turn ignition off because that will void the reset*
(not so sure it still works)

          Don't know if it worked?

Definitely felt smoother but still dropping 1st.

Best scan the transmission for fault codes.

You're better off purchasing direct from Rosstech.

Did it yesterday over lunch. My perception is that it is now shifting smoother, it seems to have lost the hard shift from 2-3 under hard acceleration....
