Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tow bar purchase and fitment in Melbourne?

I've got a 2011 Passat Wagon and I'm hoping someone can recommend a good place for purchase &/or fitment of a tow bar. Cheapest price I've found so far is $1400 which is way more than I was expecting and sounds like I'm being ripped off. The tow bar on my last car, a Subaru, was $400.

That first link I posted seems to have disappeared. Why not ring Westfalia in Melbourne and ask them who fits them The premier invisible one is the neatest

Hey brettue I've got a 2011 Passat wagon and looking to get my tow bar removed as I don't need it. Was going to try my local panel repair shop to see if they could do it. Maybe we could work something out via pm as I'm not really concerned about getting money for the tow bar if you want to foot the bill for removal??

Did the swap with lukeburt7 today (thanks luke!) after Volks Affair quoted me $400ish for the switcheroo job between our cars. The bill came in at $850 and when I questioned it the mechanic said "yeah, about $400 each car". FFS! They totally knew that I was paying for both removal and fitment, kudos, they stiched me up properly. Then, just as I get back home on the opposite side of town, they call me to tell me they forgot to do the coding that disables the reversing sensor alarms when a trailer is hitched. *sigh*
