Fuel injector cleaner for R36?

This is a repeat of my post in the specialist tuning section - this time targeted at R36 owners:
Someone recently advised me to use injector cleaner mixed in the petrol tank every few weeks or months. Does anyone have advice whether this is a good idea for a petrol V6? Is it recommended by VW?
If yes, how often? And is any brand OK or just genuine VW/Audi product? There's a small metal can from Audi for around $40 which is said to be no different to the Holden plastic bottle for around $8. Then there's all the aftermarket ones such as Nulon, Wynn's etc. Thanks.

I would suggest an upper intake cleaner instead.

Subaru, Three-Bond, Liqui-Moly, are ones that definitely work, and do give noticable improvements to idle and driveability.

Valve cleaning is the best thing you can do however. A good walnut blasting makes the car like new.

Walnut blasting requires some work though. I presume the op is looking for something that works while just driving. I would be interested to hear more about valve cleaning products whilst driving as I know this direct injection crap can cause some issues!

The valve deposit is only one of negatives from burning the fuel in the cylinders. There are many benefits that you get from using a good fuel additive, and yes the upper engine cleaner is beneficial too, so it should be used at every oil change to keep your engine in the peak condition for longer, compared to when you use fuel w/o the addition fuel additive.

I use BG 44K for the TSI engines and also Interject products. The additives are beneficial no matter what some here will say to you. Non of my customers who use them ever experienced the fuel related problems and it also applies to those with the diesel engines.

I've had good results with Nulon Total Petrol Fuel System Cleaner. It will clean your injectors & maybe the combustion chamber but that doesn't help the intake valves.

If you are using a quality 98ron fuel I don't think you need to use injector cleaner every few tanks - I'd think every 4-6 months would be sufficient.

Nulon foaming intake cleaner & the others mentioned all have an effect but so does a home-brew of kerosene, turps, degreaser & water. It depends on how DIY you want to go.

Alternatively, water injection works for you all the time.
