R36 Boot release

Hey everyone, Looking for some advice. I just purchased an R36. The trunk release button on the driver's door doesn't work. The boot locks and unlocks with the remote.

It also doesn't have a closing button on the inside of the boot door like my B7 did. Could this be a faulty lock actuator, even though the boot can still be opened manually? Also, there’s no override/valet button in the glove box.

Sounds like it doesn't have powered tailgate. This was an option.
The boot release switch just unlocks it.

Ahh thanks .. I was thinking along the lines those line; however shouldn't the boot button on the drivers side release/unlock the door? Cheers for the response

Yes it should unlock it and it should pop up slightly. If it's not there sounds like there may be an issue with the switch given you said it operates fine from the keyfob. You can check measuring blocks with a diag tool like VCDS or OBD11 to see if the CECM can see the switch being operated.
