Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New to R36

    Hi Guys,

Recently joined the forum as I just bought my 2010 R36 Wagon. I bought it with 150,000Km's on the clock and it has been serviced with dealership/mechanic it's whole life. I'm just wondering what maintenance I should do or what is coming that I need to be aware of?

    Thanks heaps

    Hey Snail ,

I’d get the timing chain looked at obviously as they can go at this mileage and you don’t want it failing on you out of the blue.

I guess things like the rocker gasket, PCV valve in the valve cover.

If you are handy on the tools you can do the valve cover gasket yourself and do the PCV valve at the same time like I did. Also do the little square gaskets that join the inlet manifold as you will need to remove it. I ordered mine from Vag Parts. I think these are the part numbers 03H133237D, 03H133237J, 03H133237G

PCV I got from serviceparts Australia Part No:V10-4601 Vaico.

Valve cover gadket part number 03H103483E. Got mine from Vag Parts.

Check your coils and Spark Plugs.

    Fuel pressure sensor.

Water pump (check as original had a plastic impeller that is prone to failure.

There are obviously other things I’d check some other members may shed some light on but what I’ve detailed is a starting point.

    Cheers
