  • Clockspring replacement for Passat B7 2011

So the clockspring on my B7 2011 Diesel decided to stop working.

Spoken to VW dealer and they have informed me that the VW recall for this doesn’t apply in Australia.

They cannot tell me how much it will cost as they need to connect the ODB tool which they will charge $90.

Ballpark figure for clockspring part is $800 and additional $180 for installation.

So my question is - is that price reasonable? Does anyone know of a dealer that would be willing to do this as part of warranty? (I’m surprise that AUS wouldn’t do this as a recall since other countries have)

    Any suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks
    Saj

What are the symptoms? Are the Airbag lights or horn and buttons not working?

I don't think you will have much luck warranty wise, the NA Passat's are very different to ours and may use completely different clockspring parts. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...5V483-2945.PDF
Also the whole 13 year old car now.

You have a few options, a few vendors make replacements like Valeo, who supply the original to VW, and some places sell rebuilt\repaired ones, so much cheaper than the dealer.

If you need a diag scan and down my way (SE) let me know

      Hi MIG!

Absolutely. Airbag and engine lights are both on. No horn and no controls on the steering wheel.

Would love to take you up on the diag offer and I’m Ferntree gully based.

I was speaking with a mate of mine and he did say that you can buy aftermarket clockspring (around $600 apparently) but people have had issue with the coding and the cruise control didn’t work post new clockspring installation.

      Thanks

The Ross-Tech Wiki is currently offline, but they have a good list of all the part numbers and the features they support.

The scan tool will say what part is required, even VWs own parts catalogue needs this, Click image for larger version
