Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • The dog ate my key Passat B7 118TSI

The new pup decided that our B7 Passat 118TSI key looked tasty and gave it a pretty good chew to the point where it would no longer fit in the key slot

We dismantled the key and were able to remove the battery printed circuit board which did not appear to have any damage.

We purchased a new key shell via EBay and installed the original board and battery in the replacement shell.

Lock and unlock work fine, However when the replacement key is in the key slot I am met with the Message IMMOBILISER ACTIVE/

    Spare fob works fine.

Any suggestions as to why the replacement key won't work or suggested fixes will be most appreciated.

    Found this video on line
Volkswagen Immoblizer active no crank not start easy solution. - YouTube

Can anyone confirm that this works?

There is a little glass “pill” in the middle section of the plastic case, this is the RFID chip the immobiliser uses to auth the key. You should be able to move it from the old case to the new one, just be careful they are glass.

I will upload some pics of the location when I get home.

Here is the pic of what the transponder looks like, it will need to be moved over to the new case.

Life Saver. Followed your advice and $14 EBay replacement case and old interior works perfectly.
