Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I would recommend to avoid the foam filters (eg Pipercross) as they are messy, a pain to clean and the foam disintegrates after a few years. Get a good quality cotton pleat filter like AFE, K&N or BMC.
I’ve never personally used BMC, but have used both AFE and K&N and can confidently say that the AFE filters are better quality than K&N.

I believe this is the correct filter for the R36. aFe 31-10176 Magnum FLOW Pro DRY S Air Filter (A3 04-09)
Otherwise, here is the BMC filter BMC Air Filter for Audi RS Q3 8U TTRS 8J - FB382/01 | MODE Auto Concepts
