Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • PCV valve replacement - 2006 Passat B6 3.2L AXZ

    Hi all,

Does ANYBODY know where I can get my PCV valve rubber replaced on my 2006 3.2L 4motion Passat? I'm in north of Melbourne CBD area. Can’t seem to find a knowledgeable enough person that has done the job before other than VW themselves who would like to sell me a new rocker cover with PCV installed for over 1000 bucks (just for the part)

I’ve approached a number of garages whose mechanics were reluctant to take on the job as they never done it before. I purchased the gasket/PCV valve kit from the (suggested) US source but now I cannot find a business/person who can install the kit.

I’m aware of the YouTube tutorial by one of our members which unfortunately refers to a job on a 3.6L split manifold vehicle. My 3.2L Passat has a 1-piece manifold and it's a different proposition altogether which also involves (as I understand it) removing one of the fuel rails to complete the job.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I can do that job, TTY Euro in Mordialloc. VW don't sell the diaphragm as a seperate part. Hence the offer of doing it for a grand.
There's a good bit of labour involved as you noted taking the manifold off isn't a wall in the park.

Probably, 3 hours plus the bits. Rkxtech are the place I usually go to.

      Hi Gavin,

Firstly thanks for replying. That's one piece of good news in a while ... Yes, the kit was purchased from RKXtech so it should fit. I could make the trip down to Mordi but would like to know whether you can do the job in a day? Otherwise I'd be stranded up there 70Kms away from home Or can you offer a replacement vehicle if the car is required over a period of a couple of days? Also what are your labour costs? Thanks

I dont like to hear the words should when potential customers supply parts. How did you select the part you bought? Just the diaphragm or did you get the cam cover seal and manifold seals/gaskets?

No loan cars, too much drama. No reason I cant do it in a day. The hourly rate is $150. I am thinking its going to be 4 hours at least.

I supplied RKXtech with the VIN number and also gave them all the engine specs. Yes, it's full kit inclusive of rocker cover gasket, PCV valve diaphragm and manifold seals. I'll call you at the workshop after the new year.

              I've done a few.

RKXTech is where I source the diapragms.

Not a super hard job, but getting the PCV chamber out of the rocker cover takes a bit of effort.
