  • Purchasing MY12.5 v6 FSI - Melb Mechanic recommendations and things to look for

    Hey all,

About to pull the trigger on a V6 FSI, and looking for
    1. advice from users her for anything to look out for specific to the V6 or the MY12.5, and
    2. advice of VW specialist mechanics who can do a prepurchase inspection east of Melb.

Aside from looking out for DSG clunks, timing chain noise when cold, any underbody issues etc - anything of note to be aware of. I've been thru posts on here and mined as much as I could. Hoping using a vw mechanic for the inspection they will be aware of the usual issues/niggles/signs of trouble. Vehicle has a full VW service history, including Haldex and DSG services done. Brakes/rotors recently done.

Also looking for any reputable VW mechanics who can do a pre-purchase inpection around Doncaster/Camberwell areas.
Am waiting to hear back from VW Camberwall, Volkscare, JL Prestige, Auldworks - but any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Ive got experience owning Golfs, Tiguans and Touaregs - but limited Passat knowledge. Just out of an '08 Touareg that detonated the HPFP thru the engine with no warning - so just trying to minimise any risks or get a heads-up on potential unexpected surprises.

    Cheers & thanks in advance,
    Owen

Underground Performance in Cheltenham may be able to do a pre-purchase inspection for you. They specialise in VW/Audi etc. Underground Performance

Otherwise you could get a Stateroads inspection. I did this about 6 months ago when I bought a car from Melbourne and they did a very thorough inspection. Car Inspection Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra

As for the car itself, the 3.6L V6 is generally very reliable, and has been well proven as VW/Audi have used it in several few cars over the past 10-12 years (VW R36 Passat, Skoda Superb etc). Assuming its had all of its necessary servicing and been looked after then chances are it should be a very good and reliable car.

Volkspower are in Burwood, not too far from Camberwell, I think they'll do an inspection.
