Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • PIN retrieval for immobilizer key adaptation

I need my pin for performing a new spare key immobilizer adaptation. I have obdeleven but missing the PIN.

    The dealer can't/won't help.

It appears that VAG-TACHO can retrieve the PIN from the Kombiinstrument/cluster. Is this correct? And who had a VAG-TACHO in/around Brisbane and wants a six pack?

    Any help much appreciated.

In Passats the immobilizer is in the CCM behind the glovebox, not in the instrument cluster like in a Golf.
You need to read out the EEPROM in the CCM to decrypt the PIN.
I think that AVDI or FVDI MIGHT be able do this over the OBD2 port, but its possible that you need to read it directly from the CCM EEPROM dump, should be some info online.

      Thanks @kamold!

It's super annoying that VW won't supply the immobiliser PIN to the owner of the car. All these convoluted hoops to jump through just to add a new key. Not a wonder locksmiths are charing like $300.. Not sure what VW charge for a genuine key, but the programming is $82 up here in Brisvegas.

      This looks promising but

I’m sure that many Automotive locksmiths can do it cheaper than a dealer.
I can do it for you, if you ever passing Adelaide.

Which part of Sydney are you in? Can you help retrieve the PIN from a golf GTI Mk5 2008 to adapt a second key? Happy to pay for your time.

Yeah most auto locksmiths will be around half the price of a dealership. So if you're having trouble with the dealer and can't get it done yourself, an auto locksmith is an option. Just be careful to check their license, insurance and that they have some good reviews on Google and/or Facebook. Reviews can really show you whether someone is decent. There are quite a lot of cowboys in this industry.
