Cost to change Cambelt 2.8 V6

Hey Guys,

Looking to get the wife a safe runabout. Found a 99 Passat V6 in good condition. Looks like it has a full service history but it has 120k on it. I believe the cambelt is due at 120k. What would be the approx cost to change it?.

I'll also check.

*Check the catalytic converters for rattles
*Discs for wear
*Condition of Belts
*All instruments working properly

Any general comments about the model and engine?

When it come to the VR6 engine (I'm guessing it's the same engine) they are a relatively thirsty beast. And I mean beast

My little manual Mk3 VR6 chews through an average of 12.5L/100KM, but then I drive it on short trips and not in a terribly fuel efficient way. They can use less if you drive really nice, but where is the fun in that

There is no cambelt on a VR6!
Just a toothed belt (Serpentine belt) to drive all the accessories, alternator, A/C, P/S etc.

Easy job to change that.

Will need changing if it's the original on there...


The cam drive is chain and if not noisy you should be fine.

the 99 passat didn't come with vr6. it's the longitudinally mounted audi v6.
