Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • B5 auto limp mode problems 2.8 v6 passat

    Hey,

    I'm having problems with my B5 Passat 2001 Auto Transmission, (2.8 V6)

Ignition off Selector wont move out of park (Normal)
Key on, Selector can be moved out of park,(Foot not on brake pedal) So the selector lock is disabled, which is wrong, selector lights on shifter do not light up in the gears as you move the selector, on cluster is sitting in 'D'

Start car, clonk into reverse, moves backwards, into drive. clonk again, very slowly moves forwards.

    On Vagcom no codes present.
Vagcom shows current gear is '4'

Changed filter and oil as a precaution, still the same.

I'm thinking now it must be something without a sensor, as in something wrong with the shifter or something.
    Any ideas?

    reading on audizine.com

As I have 0.00V (Supply Voltage (Terminal 15)
There saying to look into the supply voltage.
I've pulled the TCM from under the carpet, its all dry and looks like brand new.

So I guess tonight ive got to check the Fuses and Relays to see if there is a problem there.

So fuse 31 and 15 which relate to the transmission have power.
Reverse lights only come on in reverse, so its not the neutral switch.

Struggling for ideas... ... feels like something to do with possibly a relay or something is wrong with the shifter mechanism

Had same problem on 1.8t. It was multifunctional switch.... Or worse can be TCM.

          I still haven't sorted it.
Its sitting up on jack stands.
Im 90% to the multifunction switch, but having problems removing the top bolt for the gearbox mount.
I kind of do thing its the multifunction switch.

Were did you buy a replacement?
Ive been looking at the ones on ebay for $80

Ive pulled up the carpet, the TCM is dry and looks like new.
My old 1998 Passat had a sunroof and got water under the carpet and the TCM was stuffed, so ive been down that route before. ITs always something different lol.

I think its the Multifunction switch, because when you turn the key on, its always in Drive, and the switch is what communicates that, also nothing comes up with my Rosstech cable, so it makes me think the center of the multifunction switch is stripped.
